These Classics Are Definitely Worth The 4K-UHD Upgrade
I have purchased and repurchased THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE MUMMY so many times, going all the way back to 8mm digests from Castle Films. I remember thinking when I purchased them on Blu-ray that I'd reached the end of money spent on owning copies of those titles.Of course, I was wrong.Let me get the Big Negative with this collection out of the way first. Although the "look" of the packaging may be great, it is terrible for keeping pristine copies of the discs. Each title slides into a sleeve, and the potential for scratching is enormous (not to mention the constant cleaning of fingerprints). I replaced previous single copies that were in better containers with the new HD copies.4K-UHD improves all of the titles, but it works wonders on THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA ... the film that I like the least because of the considerably weakened horror elements. However, the image quality is Outstanding. There is an early sequence that takes the Viewer beside the Orchestra and up past the chandelier. The clarity and brilliant colors caused me to feel as if I was actually there! In the entire collection, this title benefits the most from the upgrade. The upgrade also improves THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE MUMMY. In the latter, there are many scenes in which the Blu-ray copy I already had would have been just fine. However, there were many sequences that stood out in the new version ... and there were even more of them in THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. The upgrade heightens the details of what I'm able to see in the darker scenes, and that is a huge Plus.I've never been a big fan of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. (In fact, I'm that weird person who thinks THE CREATURE WALKS AMONG US is the best of the series.) I noticed fewer upgrade improvements in this title. Mostly, they were the occasional shot that looked really, really good. Also, I've seen the film shown as part of retrospectives in various theaters through the years, and it had a different aspect ratio in those screenings. The "square" that I remember is replaced with the full screen rectangle in this one. That didn't bother me as the frame composition looked fine. The previous "Icons of Horror Collection" was my favorite one and, if you are only planning to buy one, that would be my suggestion unless there is a treasured title in this one. However, saying that, the 4K-UHD treatment is a noticeable improvement in this set, too. In fact, I've watched THE MUMMY three times since the new purchase.I do hope that Universal will release another one ... and that they'll include THE SON OF FRANKENSTEIN in it. Based on what I've seen so far, that film should really look outstanding!

Fantastic set and upgrade from the previous blu ray sets
I love the movies a ton yet it took me a while until the set went on sale to pick it up when it made financial sense to upgrade from my 2013 set with the 8 core films. I really love the packaging, what a great presentation for these movies. The 4Ks really are an upgrade over the previous blu rays. You gain a lot in the depth of the image. The blu rays still look fantastic, the 4Ks just push the transfers up that much more. The only bummer is I had to have my initial set replaced as it was damaged in shipping/delivery. Shipping a nice set such as this in a plastic mailer bag is terrible and is begging for the case to get torn up. The initial set I received had a hole in the box cover all the way through to the inner case, which was also heavily dented. Amazon got me a replacement the next day though, and that one was great despite still getting sent in a mailer bag. At the current price it's a no brainer as each flick is only $10. I was impressed enough I went a head and ordered the first set even though it is $20 more currently. Can't wait for Universal to release more from the monster era!

Great set, but check your discs
I bought both this set and the dracula/ Frankenstein/ etc set at the same time. The other set worked great, but on this set all of the UHD discs besides mummy gave me read errors. The disc would spin up, then stop, and sometimes lock the drawer and I'd have to turn the power off and back on to get the disc out. I've seen a few other people have similar issues. I returned it (exchange not available) and purchased it again, and the replacement set is flawless. So make sure you check your discs while still in the return window.Aside from that, these discs are amazing. The image quality is pristine!

Excellent 4K Presentation of the Movies with proper use of captioning
I went through all four movies in the box set. All four movies were very sharp in its 4K format which makes the viewing experience a real pleasure. In addition, the movies plus the supplemental background documentaries were also appropriately captioned for those who are deaf, those with diminished hearing, and those who are not fluent in listening to spoken English. Many of these documentaries may have been used in previous issues of these movies. However, it should be noted that the complete legacy collection of Universal monster movies had those documentaries which were unfortunately without english captions. This box set corrects this problem. In addition, the documentaries were sharp, clear, and very educational!I look forward to seeing more of these Universal monster classics in the 4K format. Now that it has been 100 years since Universal made and presented the Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Phantom of the Opera which starred the superbly talented "Man of a Thousand Faces", Lon Chaney Sr., it would be great if those films will be included in any future 4K box sets.Again, keep up the good work with these film restorations. They are indeed a real pleasure to watch.

Great Horror Classics Superbly Rendered
First and foremost, this is a triumphant collection of superbly rendered classic horror movies, especially The Mummy, The Bride of Frankenstein, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon. If you haven't seen these movies yet, don't hesitate. Any film buff must see these for the pure enjoyment and also for a historical understanding of the foundations of American horror film. If you have previously purchased the earlier Blu-Ray releases as I had, you may wish to think twice before buying these 4K versions. These are better than the Blu-Rays, but not as much as one might hope. If you're determined to have the best on offer and have the money to spare, buy these by all means. But the Blu-Ray versions are excellent and will satisfy cost-conscious collectors.
