Think Yourself Rich

In My Opinion The Best of Joseph Murphy's Work
I started off by reading Joseph Murphy's " The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" a few years ago, the blue and white cover edition, not the nicer Penguin books (green and white cover) edition, both sold on Amazon. Recently I took an interest in reading more of Murphy's book, because I mostly only heard of The PYSM (for short), and wasn't aware that there were at least 5 or six other prominent works from Murphy including the Miracle of Mind Dynamics, Infinite Power to Be Rich, and Think Yourself To Health, Wealth... Bottom line, this book Think Yourself Rich, is probably my favorite Joseph Murphy book, even over The PYSM, Murphy is probably at or near the top of my favorite prosperity authors along with Ernest Holmes, Robert Collier, and Charles Haanel. However, in this book, Murphy seems to quickly and succinctly sum up many of the ideas he presents in the PYSM, however he backs them up with actual examples of clients or students that he had helped over the years, and makes a compelling case for the power of positive thinking, and why for many people the LOA (Law of Attraction) doesn't seem to work the way they expect it to. Alll of the books released in the Penguin Classic (the solid colors on top, whitte on the bottom) series are very nice books quality wise, and my understanding is that they have been authorized by Joseph Murphy foundation, as updated re-releases of his works. My ONLY gripe or PET peeve, is that most of these books have been MODERNIZED with more up-to-date examples: what do I mean? 1) In this book there and the rest in this series, there are several stories that Jospeph Murphy tells of students or people that he has counseled that are working in certain career fields, he will tell a story of this guy X, or this women Y, works in this industry or career, etc etc, with the new versions many of these careers have been changed from what were probably traditional career fields at the time for men and women (the original copyright is in 1972) of maybe secretaries, people working in industry etc, to all of sudden these people being web-designers, internet stock investors, etc. It doesn't change the content of the examples but it is annoying in the sense that you know there was no way Murphy included these careers in his original work, he passed away before these careers where even around. There is a similar example in Charles Haanel's Master Key System where one edition has him talking about VCRs and Computers, his book WAS WRITTEN in th 1930s, anyway sorry for the caps but I think that sometimes this attempt to MODERNIZE these works takes away from the original content, even if some of the original content does reflect the typical racial and sexual attitudes of people at that time, you see some of this in Robert Collier's work and Napolean Hill. Anyway I do highly recommend this book, The PYSM, and The Miracle of Mind Dynamics for anyone who wants to get their feet wet with Joseph Murphy's work! Also Recommend: The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: There Are No Limits to the Prosperity, Happiness, and Peace of Mind You Can Achieve Simply by Using the Power of the Subconscious Mind, Updated The Miracle of Mind Dynamics: Use Your Subconscious Mind to Obtain Complete Control Over Your Destiny

Not a Get-Rich-Quick Book
'Think Yourself Rich' is one of the Murphy books I found only recently, and I think it is very well written and edited, perhaps one of the best-edited books by the author, and the persons in charge for his legacy.Let me say this as an introduction to this review. This book is not only about creating wealth, but generally about handling your wishes and desires and learning to care for their positive outcome and realization in our space-time reality. This is not a lack of focus; the truth is you cannot separate material riches from spiritual riches, which is one of the eternal laws of the mind. The material plane is a sub-plane of the larger spiritual wealth plane, which is why in the Jewish tradition and other ancient spiritual traditions, material wealth is considered as an outflow of spiritual wealth.King Solomon, as reported in the Bible, chose wisdom over material possessions and was then blessed with material wealth in addition to abundant spiritual knowledge and worldly power. This is not, as many today believe, a focus on material status, but flows out from a wide definition of spiritual wealth, as it is to be found in the root traditions of all ancient civilizations. What I found very precious in this book compared to other books of the author is that it contains real life examples of people who did the prayers, but did them wrongly, thus experiencing no or reverse effects. For example, Murphy told a client who prayed for an elder relative who suffered from a debilitating illness to change her approach and avoid dwelling on specific organs of the body and their disorders and instead identifying with the infinite healing presence in our subconscious mind.By the same token, prayers should not be endlessly repeated but only a few times per day because the very fact to pray excessively signals to the subconscious mind that we lack faith in the outcome of the prayer, thereby reversing the response of the subconscious mind. Hence, the importance of lightness of touch when praying.Another important problem Joseph Murphy addresses in this book is to make choices. In fact, there are many people who do not dare to choose. They are afraid to choose or they are wary to choose, apprehensive of any possible outcome.Dr. Murphy affirms our right to choose and explains that we actually always choose, even in the moment we refuse to choose. Because what we choose then, is being chosen by others, for passively fulfilling their needs and wants projected upon us.The ultimate root of Murphy’s teaching is to bring us to assuming full responsibility for our lives; for this to achieve, we need to do away with projections and self-pity, and the eternal escape of blaming fate for our failures.

Yowza!
I have read books in this field for a long time, from Moneylove, to Money is my Friend, to Catherine Ponder, to Wallace D. Wattles, to The Secret, to Ernest Holmes. I don't know what happened; one day I forgave everyone who ever hurt me- did a real ho'oponopono, cut everything- and the next day, a check for $4,500 showed up, from a source I didn't expect a dime from. I have 10 Murphy books, have read about 8. I liked the other books I read- I needed them- however somehow I finally made my test, which was to have money show up after trying it. Basically, Murphy says your life is the reflection of the predominant thoughts in your subconscious mind. He suggests taking certain positive statements, 5-15 minutes/time, 2-3 times/day, in a very relaxed state, to tip the balance. I haven't quite gotten into that rhythm, however, the check was very impressive. I like this book. Other people say what they say. I like reviews that mention similar books, at least books on the same path, so I do that. Money Is My Friend , The Key to The Secret: How to Manifest from the Heart , The Reality Creation Technique , and Journey - Consciousness the New Currency are also useful.

A better book, in my opinion
An interesting read of case histories where success has been achieved by developing habits of positive affirmations which cause habits of positive ways of thinking once the affirmations have sunk into the subconscious mind.A better book, in my opinion, is The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by the same author, ISBN-13: 978-0553583182
