Q: would i need special nitrogen cartridges, or do they come in a standard?

All I saw was standard just 2 options nitrogen N2 and nitrous oxide 2hich is cheaper but that's mainly for whipping cream devices but even that most are same size bullets

Q: How long do the cartridges last?

One cartridge per 17oz of coffee

Q: Am I money ahead to purcahse a larger unit as to capture more of the nitrogen that will get wasted when it sits in the machine and leaks out?

The larger kegs hold 64 or 128 oz and are more cost effective They require either 2 or 4 nitrogen cartridges and hold their charge for many days
