Excellent first book
My first time reading this author but pleasantly surprised. I like the main character’s back story, and the other cast are sizing up nicely. Good plot and very much looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Scarborough , but no fair
A long awaited return to the town of his birth, brought on by circumstances outside his control, brings us an introduction to DCI Tom Raven.A slow burner that builds confidently through the telling of the tale and makes us look forward to more!Yes please.

Disappointed
Started well enough but I soon tired of Tom Raven. A very irritating character who you just want to shake up.Also far too much written about the ‘thoughts’ of the other characters which become quite boring after a while.I risked reading Book 2 and it was even worse.Sorry but I like my detective stories to have more zing about them and I also became quite tired of hearing about the BMW M6 which Raven drives. Raven is not an especially likeable character I’m afraid.

Very good!
Set 12 miles from where I grew up. Not familiar with all of the areas, but it’s an accurate picture of Scarborough as I remember it. Tom Raven is quite good as a character, although his past *badly* affects him in this book. I doubt a CI who had got rid of one badly performing DI would have given him so much leeway. No typos, always good to see! I like his team, and am looking forward to seeing them develop as individuals. Hopefully Raven will be less angst-ridden in future books. The criminal family at the centre of the book was very well-written, believable and bang-up-to-date with the media influencer. Enjoyable.

Compulsive
Four stars for readability, a good yarn with a couple of unexpected twists at the end. Concentration need, though, to keep track of all the characters.
