Paws Off My Cannon (Freedom Island)

How life really is…
Sure in the book, posting signs might have worked if everyone respected them, but the hyenas show that’s just not how life works. We don’t live in a utopia where everyone follows the rules, so a person needs to defend against those who intend others harm. My five year olds understood this book, and I’m so glad. No one who actually read this book could give it a bad review. I say that, and my grandfather was killed by a person with a firearm when my mother was 7 years old. Tragedy happens unfortunately, but more often than not people are not trained to think self-protectively, and that doesn’t help.

Fantastic book for teaching kids about how life & society really works
I have 3 girls and have always read to them. However, not all books are worth doing so. Thankfully, Paws off My Cannon is. It's a creative, gentle way to educate kids that: 1) This world is, sadly, not utopia. There is actual evil. Attempting to keep them in ignorance is unloving. 2) Since there is evil, it must be opposed in various ways. This book goes deep, in a light way, to educate them that there is no option except to oppose evil. 3) Evil must be opposed in an organized and civil way. The book tells us how to do that.

Hit the nail on the head
Simple, truth filled and clear message. I highly recommend brave books. I love that it teaches lessons and morals that children can apply to life. I we have have children ranging from 8 to 14. Every morning Our family reads a picture boom together. With such an age gap you can imagine there’s a lot of mixed reviews. However, They love brave books so much they request them over any other books and recently they told me it’s their favorite part of the day. They like that The storyline moves on between all of the books. They also really like animals of high character animals coming together to defend freedom island. They especially like looking for them mouse on the pages where the character receives the letter.

Finally a kid's book that isn't leftist agenda!
I'm not hyper conservative or anything, pretty moderate, but man it was refreshing to read something to my kids that had a conservative pro-2nd Ammendment spin on it. AND it wasn't divisive. Both parties representing different values ended up getting along and working together.Very good story to bring up lots of talking points with kids (my sons are 5 and 7).Any negative reviews because *gasp* this book has a conservative political leaning *clutch your pearls* should maybe step out of your echo chamber and expose your kids to concepts that don't fall directly in line with your own ideology in the hopes they'll learn to evaluate different sides and form their own opinions.

Son loves this one
My son has almost all of the books from the freedom island series and this is in his top two for favorites. The illustrations captured his attention and the plot is great. It details how friends with differing ideals can come together in the end.

Colorful and enchanting
The most straight forward of the BRAVE books. While a bit oh the nose, does a great job of explaining the importance of self protection as well as respecting your neighbors even if they disagree. This is a fun read for anyone, highly suggest adding it to your arsenal! 😉
