Easy to put together
I was an archery instructor at a camp years ago. This is a quality bow. Easy to put together. My son is 9 and he's learning on this one If they are younger than 9 then I would suggest using a 15 lb. draw weight.. The limb has the exact weight marked on an inspection tag. This one came in at 22.5 lbs. You will need an arrow rest and sight, The bow is tapped to accept standard bow sights and the thru hole for the arrow rest so threaded. Don't bother to buy a bow stringer.... just do it old school by placing the lower limb in front of your left ankle and then step over the bow with your right leg (do this after you attach the bow string to the lower limb first). Remember that the smaller loop end of the bow string attaches to the lower limb and the slightly larger loop attaches to the top limb. You are now ready to apply pressure to bend the limbs to string the bow. I suggest that you buy a bag of noc rings and a pair of noc pliers, and a window rest. I went with the threaded style although I have the glue on just as a back-up.

Fine as a bow, Poor customer service
I purchased two of these bows, one left-handed, one right-handed, for my two sons, in order to introduce them to recurve archery. They are a decent value for the price, and serve quite well as introductory bows. But if you are thinking of purchasing these, bear in mind that you CANNOT purchase separate limbs for these bows, which means that the bow will not grow with your child's shooting ability. I emailed as well as called customer service regarding this issue, and even told them that I would buy limbs at every poundage level as I also have a young daughter who isn't ready to shoot yet. I was informed that it was indeed the case that it wasn't possible to purchase limbs for this bow. It appeared that Jeff in customer service was willing to make an exception in my case, as I offered to purchase limbs at every poundage level, and was told to furnish my address so that I could be billed via PayPal. But that appears to have been a dead end as there has been no communication since. So what's my final verdict?PROS: a good introductory recurve bowCONS: cannot purchase limbs separatelyWhat's the point of a recurve bow if you can't buy limbs for it? That's like buying an inkjet printer without being able to buy ink. If I had to do it again I would have purchased a Southwest Archery Tigershark bow instead.

Perfect bow for my little lefty!
Got a SAS Explorer for my son and a SAS Spirit Jr for my daughter. She LOVES this bow. The fact in comes in left handed is a major plus. Did a lot of research on these before I bought them and I must say, I'm impressed. If you're on the fence about archery and getting your kids outdoors more, I encourage you to invest in this healthy, amazing sport that improves hand-eye coordination and gets them moving/thinking about their posture.Easy to string with a little instep and body weight. Accurate as the day is long. My daughter wants to custom paint the limbs and riser to her favorite colors and I believe this is the perfect bow to do that with.

8th Birthday
Couldn't figure out what to buy my daughter for her 8th birthday. We "winged" it and decided to see if she would be interested in learning archery. As a parent and novice, I did a lot of reading on the subject to make sure we got a good setup that would keep her interested and allow for advancement. Other child based bows may work well, but I was looking for more authenticity, and ability to transition to an adult bow in the future. This bow definitely meets the mark when it comes to my requirements. We purchased the 20lb bow, and she is doing very well after just a few practice sessions in the house. Other things I purchased with this bow were: bow stringer/ finger savers for the string/ carbon arrows/ stick on arrow rest/ youth arm guard.

Snapped limb with stringer
we waited 6months to order this bow for my daughters birthday , she opened 2 days early on christmas day and the limb snapped when stringing it with a stringer. 😏 we opened it early so we could go shooting together during my visit, unfortunately thats not going to happen now. We purchased the 22lb 54in make. The limb snapped where they bolt to the grip/frame
