If you’ve read Beevor you’ll love this
Superb account of the ‘other side’ of the great D Day campaign and all that followed. A great counterpoint to Beevor’s classic and blends anecdote, detail, poignancy, and - ultimately - drives home the utter pointlessness of it all. One tiny criticism - apparently one of the pictures of a German ‘casualty’ is in fact a Landser trying to dig his way out of sand after being partially buried during a bombardment. Thanks to the extraordinary collection of Normandy photos on Flickr for that one.

A superb account of the Normandy Campaign through the eyes of the German Soldier
Much has been written about the Normandy Battles of summer 1944 but not many accounts of the German Soldier's view exist in English.Much exists in unit histories or one can read Paul Carell's dated Invasion They're Coming !,but this book provides a more modern look at the Normandy Campaign using many new sources that Richard Hargreaves located. The book is written in a style that puts you on the ground with the German Landser providing a human look at Normandy rather than a strateigic approach of unit movements etc.The book delivers what the title says and in my opinion it belongs on the bookshelves of any one interested in WW2.
