Herman Miller Classic Aeron Chair-Aluminum, Size B

Several problems I'll address at the outset: Calling it "open box" seems misleading. Open box items are typically not used and returned, or very lightly used and returned. These are clearly just used. The chair is not "fully loaded". That would imply leather armrests and the posturefit included - which they are not. They have another, more expensive variety of chair that does have those features, and is truly "fully loaded". Now, when it comes to the product you get, does these things matter? No. At least not to me. My chair arrived earlier than expected. As of this writing, I've had and used it extensively for 6 days. Upon opening the (rather large) box, it was in two pieces - the base and the backrest. A quick inspection showed light, visible signs of wear. A few scuffs, and some dust. A clorox wipe took care of that, no big deal. The chair is definitely used, but I don't care because it's supremely comfortable and amazing for my admittedly lackluster posture. Setup was simple - use the included allen key to screw the back of the chair to the base - 5 minutes tops. The most annoying part of set-up was getting rid of the box. Not bad, in my book. A few days into this chair i did notice some leg pain creeping back. It was one reason I got rid of my old chair (among many, many reasons). However, after doing some trying and searching - I discovered it was my notebook in my back pocket giving me the strain - the early signs of sciatica it seems, similar to when men keep their wallets in their back pocket all the time. Once removed, I was back in comfort town. The lumbar is a nice add - keeps my back supported, though it did take a lot of fiddling to find the right place for it. The good news is that you can do it - my last chair had static lumbar support that dug into my lower back and was very uncomfortable. The mesh nice and breathable. Looking forward to not suffering with my bonded leather chair in the summer. The chair is also very configurable. The fully adjustable arms, while vinyl and not leather, are plenty movable and pivotable for optimum comfort. Tilt limiter and seat angle adjustment are even better - I can be in "work mode" when I work from home to a more relaxed "game mode" with a couple swift adjustments. Considering I'm a lazy kid who loves watching shows and playing video games, I spend the vast majority of my time at my desk. Someone once gave the advice to always spend extra on things that separate you from the ground. Good tires, a nice bed, good chair, good boots. I tend to live by that and spend a little extra on products that last years and years. The upfront cost is great, but the long-term payoff makes up for that. This chair easily falls into that category. Despite some... lack of truths to the product description, the chair overall is still a good buy and a good value. There's a reason this thing has been so popular since '94 - it's a classic and effective design. The premium of a new one vs a used one was not worth it to me, and I look forward to many comfortable years of seating in my Aeron.

I was going to order this direct from Herman Miller, was going to cost me over 1000.00 with 79.00 tax and free shipping, I decided to check Amazon and I got mine for 599.00 fully loaded no tax and delivery was 1 week earlier, this chair is brand new, you do not need anyone to put it together 4 screws, 1 Allen wrench (included) back sits on the frame, tighten the screws no balancing act needed, the hardest part was getting it out of the box. Delighted with the chair, its making me sit properly and stopping me sit on my feet (I had one of those leather executive chairs before) I work and play on a computer all day, I was starting to sit in my chair like a ball and having trouble straightening up when I stood up, this is correcting my posture already, chair is very comfy has a bounce I did not expect, I decided I needed to treat myself as I spend more time in the chair than I do in bed, I did my research on line and this is the Mercedes of office chairs. Worth every penny even if I had pay the full price. I was going to get the head rest but not sure I need it now its making me sit properly and I do not sleep in the chair, not having any issues with the mesh on bare flesh.

I had an Aeron chair before. They are excellent!! In this case, the chair I received was obviously used and probably returned. A brand new Aeron chair does not come with casters assembled. Additionally, the two levers that control the tilt of the seat and of the back did not work (one was stuck in place, the other moved but didn’t do anything), even after releasing the knob in the right side of the chair. The axle that connects the knob to the inside of the mechanism was covered with old dirt. The chair also came with no assembly instructions and the hex wrench was just thrown on the bottom of the box. Used chair! Amazon offered a 50% discount to keep it. I declined. Why would I want a cheap chair that doesn’t work? That’s why I bought an Aeron! They also said I needed to make the pick up arrangements with UPS. I declined. Beware of the seller!

I ordered 2 chairs. One arrived fine, but the other was a bit scuffed up with the centered plastic cover broken off from rough shipping. I cleaned it up and it was fine, but then the lever to raise and lower it didn't work. I took the center cover off again and found that the cable was not connected so I reconnected it and all was fine. Another problem I had with the good chair was the arms didn't go up and down after assembly. I finally figured out that I had to loosen up the back, raise them and then tighten it up again. I suggest better packing and assembly instructions. After all of that, the chairs are great! They're really comfortable and great quality. The wheels rattle a little when I move them on the hardwood floor, but that's minor. They'd get a 5 if not for the poor packing, no instructions and high price.

I’m not gonna lie. I was a little worried at first because of some of the reviews I had read about these refurbished chairs being a nightmare. I read more than one so I was a little bit hesitant, but I’m glad that I went through with the purchase. My chair came in a big box with the back removed to make the box smaller and a bag with four allen head screws for attaching the back. Took literally five minutes to get it assembled. Every single thing works as it should. You really can’t tell that this was a used chair. Maybe I got lucky and just bought one that had hardly been used ? Whatever the reason may be, I’m very happy with my purchase and I can tell that Herman Miller makes quality office furniture.

I was a little skeptical dropping this much money on a refurbished chair, but I couldn't be happier. I injured my upper glute muscle recently, and I would get very sore and still sitting in my regular chair. Decided to take the plunge to luxury chairs, and it not only does not hurt my lower back/glute, it feels like it's even healing it. My back actually feels stronger after sitting in it for a while. I hear these things last forever, but I'd buy another every year if I had to.

Update: I got quick feedback from customer support regarding the issues I raised. Here are their answers: "In order to adjust the forward tilt on the chair you would have to lower both the levers recline back and lift the forward tilt.That would activate the forward tilt. On the rear tilt there will be three degrees you can activate the tilt.Please try tightening the tension on the chair that would could be the reading or it. In regards to the height adjustment.I am not able to understand the reason why it would drop all the way once.The pneumatic will act depending on the force it is used to lower. If you are unable to adjust these please let us know we will have it replaced " Indeed, when following these instructions and lowering to the max one of the controls, I was able to change the forward tilt. The backward tilt adjustment is still not smooth but I was able to set it at a level that felt OK. For the pneumatic, it is still not as good as a non renewed Aeron chair. But I guess that is what you get from buying a product at 1/2-1/3 of the original price... In conclusion, I change my rating from 1 to 3. The customer service was good. The forward tilt control was not locked in place, and the way the backward tilt and height control work is still not very satisfying. It is a comfy chair. But I still think it is expensive for a product with defects like those, knowing how a "normal" Aeron chair feels. --- I received my chair yesterday. It took 4 days more to arrive than what was advertised, but due to the snow storms over most of the US I can excuse that. It looked good, except from a few scratches, but I did not mind. The seat is comfy, maybe a bit less than I remember from a previous Aeron chair that I owned a few years ago. However, there are some big problems: 1) The forward tilt control (on the right on the picture) does not work at all. It is locked in position and I can not make it move. 2) The backward tilt control is not smooth at all, and sometimes locks in place, forcing me to change my position on the chair until it unlocks. It does not feel normal, as compared to the previous chair I owned. 3) The chair height control does not control the fall. In my previous chair, when I was sitting and lowered my chair, it went really smoothly. With this chair, I abruptly falls to the lowest position when activating the control. I am not a heavy person (170lbs). That is why, despite the chair being usable, I leave it a 1-star review. The product has several defects that you do not expect, even from a renewed product. I bought the chair for being able to adjust my position, and because I wanted a high-end chair, as I spend ~10 hours a day working or relaxing in front of my computer. I contacted customer service today, and might change my review depending on their answer. I might also update this review in the next few months depending on how comfy I feel after a long term use. This chair is quite expensive, and I urge you to maybe try a cheaper alternative... I wonder if renewing companies are not profiting from the reputation of Aeron chairs to sell defective products at a high price.

Literally the only thing I wish this chair had, was higher air rests. But with that being said, that's me being stupid picky. Legit has helped alleviate my lumbosacral pain from a 9 to a 2. I sit in the chair like 10 to 14 hours a day. I absolutely love it and have zero regrets! I think the chair is better than buying new, as it's broken in and comfortable!!! Best chair ever and I don't think I'll ever need another one. If you're contemplating it, do it!! Best purchase ever and this will last for years, unlike those "gaming" chairs. Those ones Legit suck and are a waste of money.

Pricey, but wonderful. Everyone who visits my office wants one after sitting in it.

The product description indicates that the product is new, which I don't believe is true. Rust on the wheels, a loose wheel that rattles when I move the chair, scratches on the body, and a hole on the body. And the chair smells bad. Clearly not new. I feel totally ripped off. It was so expensive. I could not be more unhappy with my purchase.

The chair arrived in terrible condition with traces of mold and dirt.
