Great for taking out the soft grain in wood to give it that rustic grainy texture, both to the eyes and touch. Very easy to use.

I tried this stainless steel wire drum on several different materials. Wood and soft metals like aluminum take a light touch. Harder metals such as steel and stainless steel are easier materials to work with. It will strip paint off of both wood and metals and leave a uniform looking surface as long as your final passes are all done in the same direction. You do need a burnishing tool or possibly a special buffing machine or grinder made to accept this size of drum. The wheel is solid and seems to be well made. As with all wire wheels only extended use will let you know if the wires are long lasting. Overall I think it’s a good option if you need a stainless wire wheel of this size.

What you need to know before buying this Wire Brush Drum.1. First thing you want to know is that this drum will not fit some Burnishing Machines, such as HARBOR FREIGHTS and EASTMANS and possibly others, only allow for 4" diameter Drums. The bigger 4.7" drums will not fit. So be careful when you order.2. There are lots of drums available and they are not expensive, buy the right one for the right job. THIS DRUM though is more expensive but it will last if you don't abuse it. Let the drum do the work, don't push down hard on the drum. It will do its work if you simply let it.3. When this wire wheel starts to have its wires leaking too much simply remove the drum and turn it around. Its ready to go, use it for a while and repeat the change of direction.4. Try to buy a quality machine to go with this drum or any drum. There is so much to do with this concept but a poorly designed machine that is out of round or overheats etc. can be a real deal breaker for your project.5. This STAINLESS STEEL WIRE BRUSH is like taking your bench grinder off your work table and taking it with you. There are so many things I can use this for: taking the paint off a spot I want to weld, polishing off a weld, cleaning rust off anything metal is a dream (it's almost fun), cleaned off the rusted connections and attachments on top of my neglected propane tank - I carefully touched down on the little stuff and made everything all shiny and pretty again. This wire wheel makes me look good - I like that!

works well especially for larger projects like rust removal from fenders

A wide brush like this is very nice if you have something on which to turn it. I put a long bolt through it and chuck it up on my metal turning lathe. That turns it nice and steady and in either direction. I guess you could use it on a hand held tool but it would be a handfull to hang on to it. It begs for safety when using it on a machine that won't stop if something gets caught or slips... but, it does do a great job of what a wire brush is meant to do.

This wheel does a good job of cleaning off rust and corrosion from metal parts. It takes a special kind of mount which I did not have so I built one from a 3/4 bolt . I welded a washer on the bolt for a backstop and used washers and a nut to hold the wheel securely in place. I then cut the head of the bolt off and mounted the unit in my metal lathe. Now I can change speeds to get the finish I want. The wheel works well and the wires are held secure so they are not flying out like some other wheels I have tried. This is a little pricy but works well. I would purchase it again.
