Lace low boot Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

I'm satisfied so far with the fit
Item arrived earlier than indicated. Kudos to the seller and the courier.I'm satisfied so far with the fit. Surprisingly comfy as I expected it to be painful specially on long walks.Just an update. Hasn't been a month yet but the shoes became even more comfortable whether paired with thick or thin socks. Great for long walks and occasional sprints to catch the bus or the green pedestrian light. I'll provide another update after a month.

These are counterfeit shoes
These might as well be called nurse Martens because they are F-A-K-E. ever seen Docs with the souls glued on where you can see the souls? Ever seen a black Doc Martens tag wih black embroidered writing? No wonder they were half off - I was hoping they didn't sell wel last season. I'm writing to docs right now to link them to these clowns. Wasted my time and money with your counterfeit Chinese knockoffs. Don't mess with the mod subculture. We pay attention to our gear, dorks. Also the souls for this pariulsr line were a more red hue. You guys really messed up

Not very comfortable but they look great
They look beautiful when you're wearing them, but the ankle area with no padding starts to irritate the skin after a while. I usually get the Industrials for this reason but thought I'd give the classics a try, not smart.

Better quality out there for the money
You can tell docs quality is slipping leather is cheap and one made over seas it’s defiently shows through

Nice boots
This is a great looking, sturdy boot that runs small and narrow but ends up being pretty comfortable after break in. Even sizing up a 1/2 size from my running shoes (and a full size over other boots) the left boot is still tight with thick-ish socks. The leather is stiff initially but like all Docs it molds to your foot after a while and feels great.

Slim fit, not the usual Classic DM fit.
If you have a wide feet, better get one size bigger than your normal DM size. Slim fit, not the usual Classic DM fit. Very lightweight, very comfortable, well made, and looks sturdy. I like it.

Love these boots!
I have been wearing Dr. Martens boots for nearly 20 years and these are by far the most comfortable. I am planning on ordering another pair. One for the shop and one for going out.

N I C E boots.
I love these boots. I used to wear the old Nana monkey boots but these are a higher quality and more comfortable boot. These size 12's a slightly larger than I would need but not uncomfortably big - 11 would be too small.

THEY'RE CALLED MONKEY BOOTS AND ALWAYS WILL BE!
MONKEY BOOTS!I've been meaning to get a pair of these boots for a while now to add to my ever growing DM collection and I'm glad I did, they look great, but are expensive like all DMs these days. The original forerunner of this boot was worn by the Czechoslovakian Army in World War II and had 7 eyelets. I've always known this type of boot, also made by Grafters and Solovair to name a few, as a "Monkey Boot"; Dr Martens version is called the "Church" boot and it only has 5 eyelets, I'm guessing but it might be down to copyright issues. Peak sales of the Monkey boot was in the 70s and probably caught on because they were Army surplus and cheap. Lots of clothes back then were from the Army and Navy stores, I once saw a kid go to school dressed as a Japanese Admiral! In my youth, if you had a pair of Monkey boots and a pair of smooth oxblood (not cherry), 8 eyelet, 1460 (first produced on 01/04/1960, using a 1959 last) DMs, you were sorted!SIZE INFOThe size stated on these boots is confusing because the stamp on the inside says it's a size 10 UK / 45 EUR which is wrong. A 45 EUR is a 10.5 UK shoe size, properly labelled it should read: 10 UK / 44 EUR. That said and having tried them on, I would say they are a size 10.5 UK, not a 10 UK. Dr Martens sizing I'm afraid, maybe a 9.5 UK size would have been a better fit for me. I have a wide foot and I found the width to be slightly tight, but it should be perfect once the leather has stretched a bit. They're a bit too long, but a couple of gel heel inserts/protectors will sort out the length and also stop my heels from being sand-papered when breaking them in!MADE IN THAILANDI also note that these boots are made in Thailand, coincidently, I've just purchased a pair of 'For Life' Smooth Oxblood 1460 DMs, which are also made in Thailand and I had to go down a whole size to a nine, but they fit perfectly. Maybe the boots coming out of the Thailand factory are a bit on the large size? Dr Martens say they used a 'comfort' last to build the 'For Life' boots and I found the size nine to be 10mm shorter and 5mm wider than my 'Made In Britain', Smooth Oxblood Vintage, 1460 DMs size 10 UK. They also have a thicker sole and more padding - in fact they're the most comfortable DMs I've ever had! I've been very impressed with the Thailand factory because quality wise the boots they produce are excellent. Both boots have some of the best welt stitching I've seen on a pair of DMs, in fact, it's better than my 'Made In Britain' 1460 DMs, it takes a lot of skill to get uniform stitching. The leather they have used on both pairs of boots is top notch, in fact it was perfect. Some people have mentioned fake DMs, all I can say is my boots were genuine. I can't mention the seller's name due to Amazon guides lines, sorry. Highly recommend, buy a pair you, won't regret it.TOP DM TIP: When breaking in your DMs gaffer tape the back of your heels or you will be sorry!

Tongue in cheek
I would have given 5 stars but one of the tongues keeps ridiculously sliding all the way over to the right and down the boot. A bit irritating but i have gotten used to it and it’s tolerable. I had measured before buying (im size 11). Otherwise, a good pair of boots. Happy enough

Essential footwear for anyone with style
Wonderful stylish boots, if anything they’re even more Doc Marten than your standard Doc Martens! Really comfy too & don’t really need breaking in, though look much better when they are. I bought a black pair last year & these oxblood ones are even better!

Best Docs I've had
These are far the best Docs I've owned. They look very classy, are comfy as hell once you wear them for couple of days. From the practical side they are the 'better' than lower or higher boots - I find this particular height to be perfect for boots.I've been complimented for these Docs many times - I have never had a compliment for any other boots (including other Docs) ever.

nice but broke within two months of buying
look super nice and vintage however the soles split two months after I bought them. I wouldn't expect that from a company that is supposed to be so "durable". really upset about it as I spent £130 on them.
