Great for thrift shop donation...
I bought this set to get some convenience colors. Personally I was rather disappointed. Although most of the colors are bright, some of the colors have a LOT of filler and spreads like wet-flour-mixed with food coloring. You have to spread it around a LOT to get rid of the filler texture. After my swatches dried there was no obvious chalkiness and the colors look better after they dry than they look when wet. The brushes worked fine. But I have no intention of using these paints for coloring. I will be donating these to the local thrift shop. If you just want to mess around with color, or want to have a paint set hanging around for guests to use so that you don't have to reveal your REAL stash, then these are for you. If you like to spend time watercoloring, but don't have big bucks to spend, and actually want to keep your work after you are done, you may want to consider another brand. I bought the Arteza 36 color watercolor pan set on the same order as these, and they performed better, cost less, and I would have NO problem using them in one of my watercolor books. I even have a set of Prang that worked better than these watercolors. Others may not have a problem with this flour-goop-type watercolor but for me, this purchase was a case of...whoops...

Paints are fine, but what are they?
The paints are fine, but as a beginner I have no idea how to tell what exact color I am using. Some look green, some blue, etc, but no exact color types, like 'navy blue' or 'aquamarine'. The color card provides a set of identification for each color, but there is no instruction as to how to convert or discern what the colors are. Exactly what is '7618 C'? Three stars for the lack of help there. But if I missed it somehow, I'll be happy to change my review.I'm also curious as to why I can't see the 9% of reviews that ranked as 1 or 2 stars, but that's another issue.

These are just about the best watercolor set I've ever used for less than $20
These are just about the best watercolor set I've ever used for less than $20. The colors have everything I use most. They blend well & you don't need tons of paint to get that deep, bright look that I like. As a matter of fact, I had to remind myself not to grab too much paint on my brush, which is unheard of with most paints at this price range. I like the tin they come in for storage, since the lid closes tightly. BUT, it doesn't sit flat(think cookie sheet in a hot oven) it tilts at an odd angle, making it easy to get some unintentional mixing of colors. I just take the plastic tray of paints out while I'm using them. I let them dry before putting them back in the box. I spent hours choosing this set, & I have over 15 others. All of them were under $20 as well, but this set is by far the closest to professional grade paint that I've found. I got these for color books, journaling & planning designs without using up my "good paints". But these might even work well on canvas! I'll probably get another set since I've been using these ever since I got them.

Bright & Vivid Colors!
This is a great set for adding color to your sketches. Obviously it’s not professional grade watercolors. But it’s perfect for sketchbook art and doodles. I love all the colors. Some colors seem to be duplicated. But I’m alright with that. The paints are vivid and smooth when applied and dryed to a nice finish. Not chalkiness at all. Which is a super plus. All n all, good bang for your buck. I’m happy with this purchase. I’m sure you will be too.If you like my work. Check out my Instagram @ach.143 for more cartoony watercolor art!

Finally found the best watercolor set for me!
I have tried a few watercolor sets looking for the best watercolor set for me. I finally found it. I am not a "water-colorist" I am a crafter, a doodler. and one who loves to color in coloring books for Adults. These work great for all these uses.I have been using them every day since I bought them. I was looking for a small set since I like to draw and color in all different places. I rarely am sitting at a table. I wanted paint that dried matte but not chalky and I wanted paints that mixed well to make other colors. These paints do all these things. As a bonus I found that these paints are super easy to use and activate. I love the rectangular shape, it makes the paint really easy to get out. I am very happy with these paints.

Great Price but Weak Colors
This pallete is ok if you're just want to quick color sketches but for more serious artwork I'll look elsewhere. The colors are vibrant with an exception of a few colors but it really falls short when it come to washes and for example if you're attempting to create a smooth gradient from one color to another, most watercolor brands have colors that blend nearly seemlessly but with these paints the pigments don't blend well and if you try to let the colors blend themselves you can see a border between the two color pigments where they tried to blend but failed. Another thing was that whenever I stroke my brushes against the paint pans the pans seem to 'grab' the brush and whenever I put the paint on the paper, it'll feel gummy and sometimes glooby.I also found out this set is also sold by Meeden so I doubt these colors are the same as the 72 set. These will be great as a present for young colorists who just want to dabble and don't care about washes and other techniques and just want to color but for an artist who wants to improve their skills I'll look elsewhere.Perhaps the 72 version has higher quality paints but I don't have the money to check those out but with the 12 set ,you get what you paid for.SIDE NOTE: The two reds in the color palette seemed two similar to me and seem to be repeates. Maybe it was a manufacturing error but I'll never know

Shockingly good for the price. Very pleasantly surprised
I am actually very happy with these paints. Nice color selection (no names or numbers). A few colors are a bit similar (the purples), and the black is a bit pale. Shockingly, there is a very nice (almost Paynes) grey and an English Red - which are unheard of in a "cheap" set. I bought the Paul Rubens "student" set and frankly, I returned it and kept these (and a bonus $20) back in my pocket. These are significantly nicer. The brush is rubbish, but what can you expect for this price. I swatched them on Strathmore 120 cold press and they look really nice. No idea of lightfastness yet - but all in all, a fine set. Not grainy at all, not chalky... just surprisingly good. I was going to let the kids use these, but I may have to rethink that!

Perfect for new art student
Just what I wanted for a basic art class where I am exploring water colour painting. These paints provide very good value for money, the colours are well pigmented and there is a good selection of colours.Beautiful packaging wrap as well.Edit: as I got better I bought Winsor and Newton tubes, but that gets costly. These were just right for starting out.

Good value for money.
These paints are excellent value for the price paid. I am told that the colours are Pantone colours. They aren’t artist grade, but I plan to use them when travelling on an airplane, and for adult colouring books. The brush pens seem very serviceable. The hinge on the case is plastic, so I do think it might break over time, but I can use an elastic to hold the set together. There is mixing space in the lid, but with 72 colours, mixing paint is less necessary.

Amazing!!!
It came intact, nothing broken or used-looking. The color chart is helpful, but I’m so happy I sat down this morning to make a color chart because the way the colors come out are not as they appear in the palette and not quite as they appear on the color card - they’re way better!!! My only “complaint” is that the tin doesn’t close properly on one side no matter how hard I try click it shut, so if ever I want to travel with it, I’ll need to wrap an elastic around it.
