"Okay, the Jewish guy is crossing himself. So we're confident."
"Hi, someone wanna tell me why I had to log off BangingGranniesdotcom for this?" Iffy comments like that being bandied about by a morning talk show anchor, well, the guy's just begging to be fired. Rachel McAdams plays Becky Fuller, the young new executive producer of a perpetual cellar-dwelling morning talk show who must quickly whip her staff into shape and drive up the ratings, lest "new producer" promptly becomes "ex-producer." This morning program she finds herself employed in is so down in the dumps that even the doorknobs don't function. One of Becky's first and immediate hurdles is how she responds to this crude talk show host. She very publicly gives him his walking papers, and the staff is mildly impressed. What's the story, morning glory? What's the word, hummingbird? Things turn around, thanks to Becky's boundless energy and inventiveness, but mostly to her big get in the shape of Daybreak's new co-host, the legendary Pulitzer Prize winner (and unbelievably superior and condescending) Mike Pomeroy (a wonderfully acerbic Harrison Ford). Except that Pomeroy, an old school, serious news anchor, maintains that "news is a sacred temple" and he won't stoop to doing fluff pieces, which happen to be the lifeblood of morning talk shows. His diva ploy doesn't sit real well with his television partner, Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton) who herself massages a gynormous ego. Anyway, here come the mutual upstaging and combativeness and the frightful bicker, waged in excruciatingly polite tones. The pity of the thing is that Ford and Keaton aren't given enough scenes in which they exchange wicked banter.MORNING GLORY does feature a romantic comedy angle, but it's a weak, half-hearted effort, at best. While not as meaty, MORNING GLORY bears closer kinship with BROADCAST NEWS, a film which does have romantic elements but focuses more on the behind-the-scenes minutiae of putting together a television show. Wisely, the plot in MORNING GLORY hones in more closely on the trying working relationship between Becky Fuller and her demanding star Mike Pomeroy. That's not to say that Patrick Wilson, who plays the love interest, isn't funny and sensitive and quite the catch. But he's simply not as compelling as Harrison Ford, even if (or maybe because) Ford's character is widely regarded as "the third worst person in the world." Star power crushes the charming up-and-comer, and, really, the true emotional pull comes from McAdams' interactions with Ford. They've got this neat contentious mentor-student, almost father-daughter thing going on.I've seen Rachel McAdams in MEAN GIRLS and SLINGS & ARROWS and in RED EYE, and she's uniformly excelled in these different genres. One more time, in MORNING GLORY, she proves to be a first rate comedienne. She's such a pleasure to watch (and I don't mean that she's just pretty to ogle at). Her character here, relentlessly talky and unendingly klutzy, is a fairly cliched one. But, to me, it speaks of how talented she is that she's still able to turn something contrived into something endearing. And, yeah, I think it's endearing that her character's aggressive rambling and work obsessiveness are defensive coping mechanisms. She's just so watchable.MORNING GLORY doles out plenty of laughs, some stemming from the cast's sparkling (sometimes very caustic) dialogue, some from the crazy antics McAdams comes up with in her all out efforts to save her show from cancellation. And, oh, that weatherman, the mad s#!t he had to go thru, for ratings' sake. His ordeals made me laugh a lot, the poor bastard. In the end, it all works out. Daybreak achieves a ratings boost, stays on the air. Ford gets to break a hard-hitting story. Even the doorknobs get fixed.

"MORNING GLORY": ALL-NATURAL WINNING COMEDY RELIEF FOR THE BLUES!!
All-round stellar cast: Rachael McAdams, Diane Keaton, Harrison Ford, as well as Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Wilson & really fun to see onscreen again, John Pankow ("cousin Ira" on the 80s Helen Hunt/Paul Reiser hit comedy TV show "Mad About You".Rachel McAdams is adorable & delightful in one of her cheekiest roles as the spirited & unsinkably optimistic Becky who has recently been let go due to budget cuts as Producer of a bare-bones A.M. Entertainment News program in New Jersey, which was her "stepping stone" to the major networks in New York City. This does not deter Becky who, in no time at all has an interview with a lesser-known, New York City A.M. Entertainment News Program. Jeff Goldblum plays the stressed-out Station Manager with a heart of gold; an executive struggling with a low budget, dispirited staff and a deadline to get things turned around quickly. Enter Becky with her winsome, plucky tenacity and incandescent, irresistible smile & she's hired as well as determined to succeed!!! Almost immediately she fires the Co-Anchor who is leeching any of the life out of the rest of the cast members & staff on the show. Now, all she needs do is fill the spot..and quickly! Diane Keaton is the competent former beauty queen remaining Co-Anchor, who has put in her time & doesn't foresee anything changing (as does the rest of the cast & crew), since they've all seen lesser Producers come & go. However, in her first move, Becky already has them all clapping & having feelings they haven't in a long time...hope!Beckly is not only plucky, cheeky, cute & winsome, but also smart & impassioned! She finds that already on staff is a cantankerous curmudgeon of a former investigative news reporter who is waiting out time on his contract until he can leave, no longer being on any news program, played with excellent disdain by Harrison Ford, who reluctantly is pretty much forced into becoming Diane Keaton's Co-Anchor, which doesn't sit well with either of them...cue non-stop laughter! He pretty much refuses to go along with doing "entertainment" & persists in solely reading the news reports, until Diane Keaton finally erupts at him...on air!! At which point, viewership starts to increase & as that occurs, Becky becomes more & more creative with the show & is able to book better & more entertaining segments. While Becky is succeeding in bringing ratings up, she's also creating an atmosphere of "family" among this "motley crew" of a staff, and trying to find some type of balance between career & a burgeoning love interest, played with handsome charm by Patrick Wilson. There is still the Harrison Ford Co-Anchor issue which Becky struggles with during private conversations with him, following Harrison Ford around & interrupting his private time, to try to get him onboard with the show, eventually endearing herself to him, too. It still doesn't turn him around, until he learns that Becky is being courted by "Good Morning America" & let's just say this culminates with a very cute, charming scene while Becky is involved in an interview with said morning news show, which will have you clapping!!A disarming, exhilarating comedy that will leave you smiling an infectious Becky-smile! from beginning to end!!!!

MORNING GLORY DVD
Morning Glory is a 2010 American comedy film directed by Roger Michell, written by Aline Brosh McKenna and produced by J. J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.[3] It stars Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton, with Patrick Wilson, John Pankow and Jeff Goldblum appearing in supporting roles. The plot revolves around young and devoted morning television producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) who gets hired as an executive producer on the long-running morning show DayBreak at a once-prominent but currently failing station in New York City. Eager to keep the show on air, she contracts a former news journalist and anchor (Ford) who disapproves of co-hosting a show that does not deal with real news stories. After some delays, the film was released in the United States on November 10, 2010, and abroad in 2011. This marks the first time that Bad Robot Productions has produced a comedy film. It received mixed reviews and had moderate success at a box office grossing $60 million worldwide.[4] The theme song of the film is "Strip Me" by Natasha Bedingfield.Aspiring news producer Becky Fuller has dreamed since childhood of working for the Today show, but her dedication to her career is off-putting to potential suitors. After being laid off from her job at the local Good Morning New Jersey, her mother advises her to give up her dream before it becomes an embarrassment. However, Becky perseveres, sending many different résumés out. She finally receives a call from IBS, which is looking for a producer on its struggling national morning show, DayBreak. After a discouraging job interview with Jerry Barnes, who dismisses both her and DayBreak as also-rans, Becky bumps into one of her heroes, veteran television journalist Mike Pomeroy in an elevator. She is brushed off rudely, but is told by the other passenger that this is just typical of Mike. Seemingly against his better judgement, Jerry hires Becky to be DayBreak's executive producer. On her first day, Becky realizes she has signed on to a show in turmoil, lacking in direction and money. After meeting the acerbic but long-suffering co-host Colleen Peck, who predicts Becky's demise, she fires the conceited co-host Paul McVee, much to the delight of her co-workers. Becky chooses a reluctant Mike as Colleen's new co-host. Mike is under contract to IBS, but has managed to mostly escape being utilized while still getting paid. Becky finds a clause in his contract by which he is obliged to accept an official job offer or lose his salary, effectively blackmailing him into accepting the position.Becky gets to know Adam Bennett, another IBS producer who had worked with Mike previously. After initially teaming up to deal with Mike, they begin dating, and he is initially supportive of her dedication to her job. Pomeroy proves to be hard going, throwing his weight about, trying to sabotage his debut on the show by getting drunk, refusing to banter with Colleen on air, and ensuring he only does serious news stories by making use of a clause in his contract that allows him to refuse certain assignments, like cooking segments, that he considers beneath him. As ratings begin to drop, Becky is told that DayBreak may be canceled. After a heated confrontation with Mike, Becky snaps and decides on a radical approach to save the show. She improves ratings by persuading Ernie to do the weather while doing stunts, such as riding a new Six Flags roller coaster. Colleen also expresses a keen interest in Becky's campaign to rejuvenate the show, and appears on a number of colorful segments that help the show's ratings. Jerry remains unconvinced that Becky can get the ratings up enough to stave off cancellation. Adam, not realizing what is on the line, teases Becky about how caught up she is in improving the ratings, but she sees it as a criticism that she has heard from previous men, and walks out. Mike tells her that he was once the same way, but ended up with no life outside of work.During a staff meeting, Pomeroy shows interest in doing a story, surprising colleagues. Becky goes along but realizes that he is going to the governor's summer house instead of the destination she expected. Mike ends up confronting the governor on charges of racketeering, and breaks the story of his arrest on live television. This increases DayBreak 's ratings enough to secure another year for the show. Due to DayBreak 's rise in popularity, Becky receives a job interview from Today. During the interview, DayBreak is on. Between segments, Colleen tells Mike about the interview, and that his refusal to adapt has driven Becky away. He goes to the kitchen where food segments are done. Becky watches in shock as Pomeroy tells the viewers how to make a good frittata. Becky runs back to the set and decides to remain at DayBreak

Morning Garbage
Rachel McAdams must be the most annoyingly irritating actress in movies; ergo her character is irritatingly unlikeable. The panto style over acting by McAdams and most of the cast is cringeworthy. In every scene, someone is rolling their eyes gormlessly, waving their arms frantically, gurning and grimacing endlessly and screeching, squealing and squawking the poorly written lines.

DVD review
This is a halarious film where a new kid on the block (Rachel Adams) is trying to make it in the breakfast TV world. She has already been given the push from one network because her ideas are too radical. She then manages to land another breakfast TV job and works with an old hand (Diane Keaton). But still the ratings drop and her new job is on the line. She has this brainwave to call in a grumpy old TV hand (Harrison Ford) to boost the show and her survival.Talk about a prima donna -he does not want to play ball with this young kid -and he and Keaton just do not get along -too much past history!Sounds like a recipe for the EXIT door? This film is hilarious and the interplay between these three actors + Mr Goldbloome from time to time is excellent! You will enjoy it!

Enjoyed it
Ordered this film ages ago and only just got around to watching it. I like Rachel McAdams and she played a good role here as the ditzy producer of a failing Morning TV show.I wouldn't call this a romantic comedy. There is a sort of 'romance' but it doesn't play a huge part and was a bit lacking. The rest of the film is good. Harrison Ford plays a good part and I found him amusing. I've never watched him in a comedy role before. Diane Keaton I find plays a similar part in most of her roles and so yes she was good but nothing extroadinary but she is always good at comedy. It was an enjoyable watch. Recommended.

Morning Glory (DVD)
Well what a slow burner this one is! but, it eventually gets around to the part we were all anticipating & that is the dynamics between Keaton & Ford, they just ooze star quality & the script soon had me smiling & laughing, especially when the 'weather' presenter gets involved. It is a feel good movie & all the leads are terrific if slightly underused, most especially Keaton, who is fabulous.
