The Absolute Best Microplane Set I’ve Ever Owne
I have bought several Microplane and other brand graters in the past. The first Microplane set we had was made completely of plastic and had a clear plastic boarder around the steel blade. I learned that they will crack if you put them in the dishwasher. I almost cut my hand on one that decided to come apart while using it. So I stopped putting them in the dishwasher. I knew better, but I wasn’t as good about taking care of my cooking components as I am now. I have always heard from my mother that knives don’t go in the dishwasher, so I have never put them in the dishwasher. This set is without a doubt the best set I’ve ever owned or laid my eyes on. I would really love to get the holder so these could be placed on the countertop and displayed instead of hidden away in one of our knife drawers. They look extremely professional and they are very well made. I basically don’t completely submerge these in water when cleaning them anyway. I basically clean the blade and then dry them with a towel depending on which way they are designed to cut. I just use a sponge or thick rag and wash the surface of the blade and they are good to go. I have never put any of my newer Microplane’s in the dish washer and I don’t have a problem with having to treat them with mineral oil and sometimes wax like my John Boos 24 Inches x 18 Inches x 2.25 Inch Maple cutting board. I also have several sets of older Wüsthof and J.A. Hinckles steak knives and carving knives with wooden handles that were originally purchased in Germany and they all get a good rubbing of mineral oil from time to time. Most are in the original boxes and then in wooden boxes like gift sets and we have some carving sets that are the same as well. I don’t even put my plastic handle modern Hinckles knives from our Zwilling Pro 16 piece set we purchased several years ago in the dishwasher. The set wasn’t really expensive, but it is now. I had company that was helping me load the dishwasher and somehow my plastic handle Henckles colored set of four pairing knives made their way into the dishwasher. It turned the colored plastic kind of white and the green paring knife actually broke off at the handle.I basically don’t put any of my kitchen tools in the dishwasher except for our everyday stainless flatware and plates and other daily used plates and glassware. I will put my Rubbermaid and other glass or plastic food containers in the dishwasher and only on the top rack. Some have warped lids, but it’s generally hard to find the lid for the container in the first place. It’s also not that expensive to replace and I like the fact that it gets hot enough to kill bacteria. I’ve probably sent more stuff home in them and didn’t get the container back, but they aren’t expensive like knives and specialty items like these incredible Microplane Professional graters. Basically I was looking at Microplane’s and I saw this set and had to have it. We had two left and one is starting to crack on the corner. My only issue with these and it’s not really an issue is that the ones I received looked like they were put together to make the set, and not an official set. Some look newer than others based on the stickers on the protective cover, but they are the same 5 ones in the set. Also they look a lot darker than the blond ones that are in the photos for the set as well. Hopefully if I find the stand that holds these, it will match the color of my set. Otherwise completely satisfied with my new kitchen gadgets!

More beautiful, less functional
Same microplane blades you know and love, but the handles require more care when cleaning- not dishwasher safe, and they're unfinished wood that should be treated with cutting board oil to prevent it from absorbing water. And they're not comfortable to hold. So, by purchasing these more expensive ones you get something that is prettier than the normal microplanes, but a little bit less useful. I'm still happy with the purchase though
