Nate the Great and the Monster Mess

The Good: Well written introduction to chapter-reading for emerging readers. The author is an experienced teacher who knows well the minds of first graders in the US. She knows the level of vocabulary, the adequate difficulty and subjects that are of interest to them. These books will help readers get practice into reading more and pull them away from a screen at times.The Bad: The paper on which they are printed is sadly of the poor off-white porous quality of a mass market bestseller. Page design is also bare bones, printer simple and easy on the eye while scalable if you opt for the e-book version. The poor quality of the actual object will probably not instill a love for the book itself. They will be used, and then circulated to a library. Not a keeper.Conclusion: These series will fulfill a pragmatic purpose. They will work probably well in a school setting. They will not make bibliophiles.

I bought this and 2 other "Nate the Great" books for my 5yo boy, but my 2yo boy and 6yo daughter love to all cuddle up together at story time. They aren't so long that you can't read them aloud in one setting. More like a long chapter, but fun. There are also several activities or extras at the end of the book (recipes referred to, how to's, etc).

The Nate the Great series is great, of course. However, we bought a version in “very good” condition that turned out to be in not great condition- broken spine and a bit dirty. 😧

This series is awesome!! It is captivating and has enhanced my 5 year old grandson's curiosity. It has taught him use his problem solving skills. I have purchased every book in the series.

My eight year old daughter loved this book. It reminded me of some of the Encyclopedia Brown books I read when I was her age.

It was a really cute story and I liked the recipe's also.

My grandson is four years old. He loves mystery books and we have just introduced him to Nate the Great.I really like the activities and recipes in the back that correlate with the story.

These Nate the Great books are AWESOME!!!!! My sons name is Nate and he absolutely LOVES the stories we read every night before bed! They are funny and very entertaining. Mysteries never go unsolved! Thank you so much!!!

All the Nate the Great books are "great" for adventurous little boys.
