Fascinating and Captivating!
I love Jane Kirkpatrick's books and though I initially got off to a slow start as I stumbled with some of the names and French words, once I got past the first few chapters, I could hardly put this book down. This story quickly became one of my favorites. I loved learning of Marie Dorian.I so appreciate the author's research and her exceptional talent for bringing historical characters and events to life. I also value the author's post story notes. With each read I find myself wanting to experience the related sites and landmarks and always have a much stronger sense of gratitude and appreciation for the conveniences of today. I'm looking forward to the second book in this Tender Ties series.Thank you Jane Kirkpatrick!

“True story Imagined”- Well done!
I have often wondered what it was like for the first settlers in wagon trains following where others had gone. However, this story follows right after Lewis & Clark and the author creates a story around a woman who traveled with her children and the men who journeyed to Astoria and the Pacific Ocean from St Louis. She was faced with challenging choices and great hardships. Jane Kirkpatrick did a masterful job of creating a vivid picture of what that treacherous journey must have been like. I felt her cold, I sorrowed with her when her children were starving, I understood how she both loved and sometimes feared her husband. The characters in this story were so real and their difficulties so serious that I felt like I was living what the journey must have been. This was not the first Jane Kirkpatrick book I have enjoyed and it will not be my last.

A story about the birth of our country. The grit ,determination of our forefathers to explore this new land and make lives for themselves is awe-inspiring. As they trekked across the changing landscape they endured hardships set backs and death. They pressed on to discover friendships and opportunities to learn and trade among the many different Indian tribes. The main character Marie is strong, determined, with great love for her family Traveling with Marie ,a woman in a mans world,I grew to admire her..Jane Kirkpatrick captures this period of history and makes it personal.

A gripping story
This story really makes you connect with the lead character, Marie. I find that Jane Kirkpatrick is an astonishing author who really knows how to paint with words. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and in the back where she goes through and explains in further detail the historically documented information, I find myself ready with paper and pencil making notes on further books to look for as I becomes so deeply intrigued, I want to continue reading up on her protagonist!

Writing of the Highest Order
Jane Kirkpatrick has done a marvelous job in writing this story about Marie Dorion. It's well-researched and her writing is so lyrical and her descriptions are so wonderful! I immediately got into the story and it drew me in to, not only know what happens, but to see how the characters develop intellectually and emotionally and how their relationships with one another develop over time as well. I highly recommend Jane Kirkpatrick's writing. She is very gifted!

I know I'll love it. This author makes a great read and ...
That is, I know I'll love it. This author makes a great read and I especially like historically accurate books, even if novels. Haven't started it you, but am drooling at the prospect. Saving it for a reward for when I finish a yucky task I have to take on and don't want to do. The old carrot and the stick thing, you know.

Mdame Dorion Story
This is a wonderful story, I have purchased all three books in the series. Another book I had earlier purchased brought to like more on this amazing woman and her epic struggle across America, with some very unsavory men. She was truly an amazing woman and to be sure, stronger then any around today.I live not to far from where she settled in the Willamette Valley and had run across a kiosk with a short bio on her. Since finding books on her life, it has made local history so much more interesting. Love the series of books and highly recommend them.
