Great communication device!
Great unit, really clear sound and very compact! Pleasantly surprised how well the noise suppression worked on the mics. One downside is it's a fit faffy and can be quite temperamental when initially pairing via intercom. Would recommend!

Overpriced but works
Get the negative out the way first. It's overpriced. I would have thought about £250 for the pair, and even at that it would not be cheap. The cost is why I have not given 5 stars. But they work. I have tried cheap ones, and decent motorola walkie talkies but the cheap ones are poor, and while walkie takies have much better range, they either use VOX which can be operated by wind noise/ doesn't work because of wind noise or need to use a PTT switch - another bit of wire to thread through clothing to the handlebars. Whats good: * Once you switch on, select intercom, that's it. Just ride and talk when you want. There is no delay or missed words like you often get with VOX on radios. When talking it is synchronous Just like normal everyday chat where you can both talk at the same time without 'handover'(unlike radios where only one can talk at a time.) This may have a slight downside when my son starts cursing car drivers who don't seem to seem to see motorbikes!) * Battery life seems excellent and lasts for 4 hour rides no problem. Looking at charging time afterwards I would fiully expect it to last all day without issues. * range is surprisingly good, we estimate at least 400 or 500 metres on open roads on our rides. Subject of course to line of sight which affects all and any bluetooth device, although we did find it worked ok with some tree obstruction (on tree lined bends in the road.) Range may be more but that is what we found on our actual rides. * connecting to phone is straightforward and works just as you would expect. Suggest setting phone to auto answer when bluetooth connected. Intercom is instantly disconnected when phone answers so best to agree between riders that intecom will disconect without warning. * completely hands free in use if you set intercom before you start and phone to auto answer * fitting in our helmets was laborious but straightforward. We found there were actual 'holes' in the shock padding especially for the earphones, so no extra bulk. The laborious bit is threading the cables and connectors which involves some carefully un-pinging of the helmet liners. * everything is self contained on the helmet. Nothing through clothing Not so good: * fitting the mike can be a problem. There are 2 supplied, a small button mike for enclosed helmets and a boom mike for open. I needed the boom mike and it was a bit of experimenting to a) get it to the correct length so just in front of my mouth (needed to put 1/2 the flexi boom into the liner) and b) losing the cable and connectors in the liner. My son has an enclosed flip helmet and the button mike would be ideal except the cable was way too short for the flip, so he also had to use the boom. None of this was a show-stopper but as mentioned took some messing around. * not possible to switch between helmets if you have more than 1. You would need another kit * If I did want to use more functions such as media from my phone then I would suggest the optional handlebar remote control was near essential as the helmet buttons can be used with thinner gloves but could take one hand off the bars for noticeable time? Not tested: * the FM radio, streaming music. As bikers know we have to keep our wits about us 'cos we seem to be invisible or really irritating to many car drivers (I go out dressed like a canary but I still seem to have an invisibility cloak!) In traffic I personally didn't want the distraction. Additionally in UK DAB is so much better than FM. I also don't know how the FM radio and intercom interact. * range around town. This is not a criticism of this manufacturer as all bluetooth devices are pretty much line of sight. We mainly use out bikes for outing and around town only when necessary. In our limited town use 'canyon effect' of buildings reduced the range accordingly. * haven't tested with multiple riders Will we keep them? Most definitely. Good communications when biking are very useful with time to time information ('your indicator is still on', 'turning left at next junction' etc) but most importantly they transform a trip out into a social event rather than just 2 people on bikes going the same way.

Good but many flaws
Have bought the unit earlier in the year ahead of a motorcycle trip from Bilbao back home to the UK. Installation pretty easy, fits into most helmets. But there are some issues that make me consider buying a new, different brand, headset. So let's start 1) Range I believe the claim is 'up to 900 meters' of connectivity. Reality is that, in open field, it is closer to 200m which is a huge difference. Also, that is line of sight so when you don't see your counterpart it is very likely that you also cannot communicate. Furthermore, we had 3 headsets connected with one being the host. And if that host happens to be more than 200m away from the whole group, the whole network collapses. We had an incident where our host took the wrong exit on the motorway leading to the issue that the remaining 2 riders could not talk to each other any longer. 2) Connectivity Pairing the devices is pretty straight forward. That said, we experienced a recurring issue where the 3rd party joining the host was always significantly muted to the point that the host could not hear him whilst the connection to the 2nd rider was perfect. 3) Setup Having the battery compartment separate from the unit is a pain in the bum. Also that you cannot charge the battery directly with the need to go through the comms unit. 4) Battery Life Is okay with ca 10hrs. That said, when the indicator suggests 1/2 full don't rely on it. 1/2 full meant across all 3 headsets we used about 30mins left so charging every evening is mandatory.

Inexpensive comms
This is my third Sena10R comms unit, having bought a dual set about 7 years ago that have served us well until the rubber (?) cover on the control switch broke up exposing a circuit board to the elements. This is a basic model, easy to fit and operate, with Bluetooth conversation between rider and pillion ok to about 65mph, speech beyond that is pretty indistinguishable because of wind noise. It also provides satnav directions, good telephone audio, and music off your phone, I haven’t tried the FM radio. As with all comms correct positioning of the earpieces is vital for good performance. Updates are done via a computer, and aren’t too difficult.
