What size are these roughly?

The actual slab that you start with is roughly 200mm x 150mm, Then you use the tools supplied to dig out the gem stones, The gems once dug out are around 25mm to 30mm a decent size to find and once out a good size to look at under magnification, My lad is 7 and thoroughly enjoyed digging them out and getting involved, Well worth the money

What is the purple thing in the bottom picture? It looks painted, not a crystal - does anyone know?
