It's perfect for multi round interval training instead of a phone + how to use it
I don't like to stick my mobile phone on my arm when I go running so I use this instead. If you need a maximum of 2 intervals, get the cheap simpler version. With this version, you have a quick way to set up 1, 2 or 3 intervals and a customised way for more than 3 intervals. So for instance, if I have to run 30 secs at speed 7/10 and 30 secs at speed 3/10 for 5 rounds, I use the simple 2 interval set up in which I just enter 30 secs twice and then the number of rounds (here I said 5) - note that I could also use the '1 interval' set up and say 10 rounds since my number of seconds is the same in this instance - you hear a beep (or get a vibration or both - your choice) after each interval. If I need to do 30 secs at speed 7/10, 30 secs at speed 3/10, 20 secs at speed 40 and 40 secs at speed 2/10 for say 6 rounds, I use the 3+ interval. I enter 30, 30, 20 and 40 and then the number of rounds (here 6). There is a 'multi' set up, which does the same thing except that it asks you for each interval how many times you want to do it (so you could use this feature only and just select 1 time for each interval - enter 0 times when you don't want any more intervals). The only downside to the Gymboss, I think is that there is no 'pause' button - or at least I have not found one (let me know if there is one!). So if for some reason, you have to pause, check where you are in your programme and then press the start button for longer until it stops altogether and adjust to your new requirements when you want to start again (if you make a mistake in your programming and you realise it too late, this is also what to do as it basically goes back to the starting position, so you can then press 'set up' again and change the programme).

For when a simple exerciser got more complicated and ambitious
I have been using the simple version of the Gymboss very happily for some years. The simple Gymboss Interval Timer and Stopwatch , with whatever colour variation trim takes your fancy is perfect, and a doddle to set up and understand. It is perfect for those doing a simple work, rest, exercise routine with repetitions(2 different time intervals) or one timed sequence, with repetitions, or countdown or used as a stopwatch (counting up). The challenge arises, as it did for me, when I wanted to get more ambitious with my exercising and move to high intensity interval running, where I do a certain number of sprint/walk routines at one specific time interval, and then move the intensity up to a higher number of reps at shorter intervals. I had been toying with the idea of buying a second simple Gymboss, to get 4 intervals in all, and then discovered HURRAH! Gymboss itself had produced the miniMAX which offers a huge variation - you can set up to 25 discrete intervals, (and save your programme) and, even better, this becomes an almost unlimited timed routine programme by using the complicated 'Multi' programme, where you can combine various steps and intervals together. So, using the 'Multi' option I was able to set the sprint/walk HIIT routine described (5 mins warmup walk; 1 minute sprint, I minute walk, 5 times: 30 second sprint, 30 second walk, 20 times; 5 minutes cooldown walk) as a 'Multi Programme' As you can save several programmes in each of the 'types' of programme - 1 interval, 2 interval, 3 + intervals up to 25 intervals, Multi this gives the little device a lot of exercise routines available at the press of a button The only reason I have docked a star is because the documentation which arrives with the Gymboss to guide you through set-up, is hopeless. Even the more detailed pdf (download it from Gymboss' site) is geek-written. Fortunately, as is usual these days, kind souls create Youtube vids for all sorts of things, so I did a Youtube search for Gymboss MiniMAX, and sure enough there were several to choose from. Some are created by mumbling , monotonal geeks, but some are created by communicative exercisers who also show close ups of the various scroll to menus, set-ups and the like. Kudos to those who know how to make useful, communicative videos. Once I set up my first routine, I became unstoppable. I'll probably keep the simple Gymboss for doing variable 2 interval routines, as it is a quicker one to change (longer jog, walk intervals) but, this is brilliant!

Perfect interval timer for Jeff Galloway method running
This is my 2nd as unfortunately the first didn't survive a trip through the washer machine! I follow the run/walk method and find this timer easy to use, I can change settings quickly during a walk interval if needed, and it clips discreetly and comfortably to my bra or hydration pack. The beep and vibrate function mean I hear/feel it even when listening to music. I only struggle if there is crowd noise and then I clip it face inwards and feel the vibration just fine. The accessory pack with silicone cover is a great extra purchase just to help protect it from sweat. I've tried other cheaper timers but nothing compares to this one.

It was a little fiddly to set up but that is like anything new until you get the hang of it
I am learning to run (??!!) so have to run and walk at different intervals - this is ideal. It was a little fiddly to set up but that is like anything new until you get the hang of it. I went to their web site and watched the video tuition - this helps alot. I used the bleep and buzzer, either one on their own would have been enough for me running without listening to music. Personally I would recommend it.

Excellent product for Couch to 5K treadmill
I started Couch to 5K on the treadmill a few weeks ago, and the Gymboss MiniMax has freed me to listen to my own music as I run. It is a great product - small and compact, clips easily to clothing. You can set the interval alarm to sound or vibration. Vibration is perfect for when you are listening to your own music. The instructions are relatively clear, I was able to programme my Week 3 walk/run intervals without any problem. Really quick delivery too - it arrived four days before it was scheduled. I can see this timer being really useful for all sorts of exercise - and would highly recommend it. I love it!

Good for time management
Good little timer the vibrate setting is loud as I am using it to help with time management on appointments and my colleague who was across the room could hear it. But otherwise it’s good and works well with being able to save programs you do have to remember what you saved the program as there is no way to rename it.

Perfect for interval training
I recently started interval training, and hated having to take my phone out with me as the running app I used was such a battery drain, and the arm strap was so uncomfortable. I find this little gadget so much easier. Once I've loaded on my intervals I just clip it to the strap of my vest and go. You can choose between a discrete vibration, a soft beep, or a loud beep. When running solo I like the soft beep, but the loud beep is better when running with others. Excellent for the price.

Great Pomodoro timer
I was hunting for a nice Pomodoro timer. For those not in the know, a Pomodoro timer is used to measure intervals of work with brief breaks so you can remain focused. Usually that's 25 minutes of work with a 5 minute break, and after four 25 minute sessions the following break is 15 minutes. Pretty much every other timer I could find was: >Too bulky >Imprecise (did not show remaining seconds or could not be precisely set to a whole number of minutes) >Did not track when the 15 minute break was coming- it was up to you to set each segment of your break This was perfect. As it lets you set up to 25 intervals you simply program an 8 interval set- 25-5-25-5-25-5-25-15, save it and set it to loop continuously. The display is very legible and will show both the remaining seconds in the current interval as well as the length of the upcoming set. The device tilts at a nice angle when placed on a desk. The alarm is pretty loud for such a small device. The loudest setting was so loud my wife complained that she was woken up by it going off while I was working in the adjacent office. The quieter setting is still very audible, especially with the vibrations on. I could imagine situations where this timer wouldn't be loud enough, say at a gym where music is blaring, but that's to be expected from such a tiny device. Programming the device is not especially intuitive and you're definitely going to need to have the manual close by. But for me, it was just a matter of programming the "MULTI" set. I have yet to see how long the battery lasts. I've used mine for at least 60 hours of timing with 2 second vibration and beeps and it appears to be going strong. My guess is that how much the vibration alarm sounds will most dramatically affect battery life. EDIT: After ~4 months of use at nearly 8 hours a day and 2-5 second vibration/beeps I've gotten a low battery alert. Excellent battery. EDIT: Battery life continues to be around 4 months. Press and hold the power button for three seconds to stop and reset the timer to have it turn off after a minute. If you only pause the timer it will remain on indefinitely. EDIT: Device remains an integral part of my work day. The screen has gotten scratched a bit just being put in a laptop bag, but remains very functional.

Excellent for interval running
Excellent for those who like interval running, it beeps louder than the watch (and also vibrates) and I could set it in various different intervals for a single run. My run speed has improved tremendously. Delivery of item was very fast as well.
