Must read book
This book is a simple yet powerful about how our thoughts create much of our suffering. The author explains that overthinking, not external circumstances, is often the root of our stress and unhappiness. It clearly explains complex mental patterns in a very easy and relatable way. It encourages readers to step back from their thoughts instead of constantly analyzing them. The message is straightforward but surprisingly impactful. Overall, itโs a great read for anyone who struggles with overthinking and wants a fresh perspective on peace of mind.

Good read
A nice read, Joseph Nguyenโs Donโt Believe Everything You Think is a refreshing and transformative guide to understanding the mind. Its core insight, โThinking is the root cause of all suffering,โ invites deeper awareness beyond habitual thoughts. My favorite line is, โGoals created by inspiration, not by desperation, is the real goal,โ which beautifully captures the bookโs empowering spirit. Nguyen blends simple psychology with practical wisdom, showing how overthinking fuels stress and how clarity emerges when we detach from mental noise. Concise, relatable, and actionable, it offers lasting guidance for personal growth, inner peace, and meaningful changeโan impactful read for anyone seeking mental freedom.

Good Start, But Repetitive and Not Enough for Severe Anxiety
I picked up Donโt Believe Everything You Think hoping it would help with the kind of deep, overwhelming anxiety that I call the โred zone.โ In my personal scale, the green zone is normal life stress, the yellow zone is manageable anxiety that improves with positive effort, and the red zone is where thoughts feel uncontrollable and everything feels heavy. For someone like me currently in the red zone, this book offered some help, but not as much as I expected. The author repeatedly emphasizes one main idea: you are responsible for how you think, and you can stop negative thoughts by identifying a reason and shifting your focus. While this may work for people in the green or yellow zones, it starts to feel repetitive if youโre already overwhelmed and trying everythingโfrom medication to meditation. There are a few story-based paragraphs that were okay but not very inspiring or deeply impactful. So far, I have read about 107 pages (12 chapters), and the message keeps repeating without offering deeper tools for someone who is struggling intensely.Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 5.It may help readers with mild to moderate anxiety, but for those dealing with severe or โred-zoneโ levels, it might feel too repetitive and not practical enough.

Loved it. Super insightful and calming. If you want to change the way how you react to situations go for it.

A repackage of well known Stoic concepts
Technically the whole book is about: thinking will only bring negative emotions so you should stop thinking and let whatever thoughts come to your mind.Overly simplistic without acknowledging the complexities of human emotions and psychological conditions. Stop thinking just feels impractical for dealing with real life problems.Lack of practical advices: though the book discusses the importance of not getting caught up in negative thought patterns, it falls short on providing concrete strategies to achieve this.

A book that changed my thinking
I am an anxious, overthinking person. This book taught me how to rewire my brain in order to suffer less, be stressed less, be anxious less. Its easy to read, the concepts are nicely explained, over all a very nice book to read if you like self improvement and have an open mind to welcome new ways to deal with your mind, emotions and thoughts. It really is a gift.
