Must Have
You will need this to program your hand held radio. It works perfectly and is decent quality.

Counterfeit cable which amazingly works!
Windows 10 recognised the cable immediately as a 'USB-SERIAL CH340' and assigned it to COM4. Connected the cable to the radio and tried getting the latest build of CHIRP to download settings from my GT-3TP. Nope! Nothing. I got the same error message from CHIRP as per when the cable isn't plugged into the radio at all. Turns out I was using the wrong radio type in the CHIRP settings. For my Baofeng GT-3TP it turns out that radio type BF-F8HP should be selected in CHIRP - as suggested on some website I Googled into.As others have found - the shoulder of the 2-pin plug is just too big to allow the plug to be fully inserted into the radio. There's about another 1mm further that it could go in. Do I send the cable back or cut the edge off it... Let's try just holding the plug tight into the socket... It works! Can read from and write to the radio. Subsequently, I didn't bother holding the plug into the radio and it still works. Now that I know the cable fundamentally works, I think I will slice the corner off the plug so that it fits perfectly. It's definitely a counterfeit cable (according to the details on Baofeng's website), but then - so are the radios. They have to be for the price we paid.

Olywiz PMR446, once the COM driver installed as mentioned in another review, cable worked perfectly and communicated to program them.

This is a smart handy little radio that really packs quite a punch
I like it because it is compact. However the support from beofeng and/or Amazon regarding how to program and use the Radio leaves a lot to be desired as far as I am concerned. I found it difficult to program on the keypad and trying to use the computer cable well that was a total non starter. I downloaded the chirp program after some difficulty but have never been able to get it to run. I have an I7 laptop running win10 and it just does not want to know. I eventually got a friend to program a few useful channels into it and thats how I use it now. I am a Radio Amatuer and have been for more than 40 years tho not very active and have not kept up with the technology as it is today, anyway I am working on it and am sure one day soon I will get it fully working.

Decent cable - does it's job
Purchased to connect my PC running CHIRP on MS Windows 7 to my Baofeng GT-3TP for read/write copy/programming.I grabbed the appropriate driver from somewhere suitable on the interwebs (YMMV) and had no issues at all in getting started.I'm fairly sure the cable came packed with a driver disc, but I religiously discard disc drivers as they're more often than not out of date, and moved home between buying the radio and cable and writing this review. I have no idea where anything is! \o/Physically the cable is well made, and essentially - it functions as it should. As far as I can establish by extensive online research, Baofeng don't make/produce/supply/sell any cables. Their programmable radios adopt an input and electronic handling common to many similar radios. Because of this, there are many available cables we can use - but NONE are truly "genuine".* Cables using cloned (fake) "Prolific" chipsets will require drivers that don't recognise them as cloned, but should work just fine.* Cables using genuine Prolific chipsets will also be fine.* Cables using FTDI chipsets will work fine, and have no driver issues (I know of).I have no idea what chipset is in this cable, but had no trouble setting it up and using it.I have found several alternatively branded cables, that are in every other way, physically identical to this - which indicates clearly that this is simply a generic cable with "Baofeng" printed on it - possibly with, but maybe without, Baofeng's permission.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do
Plug in your Baofeng (or Pofung as they are rebranding internationally) fire up CHIRP and Robert is your evuncular relative. Instant profilable/programmable radio. Probably not something that will be used a lot, given the use cases, but it feels nice and solid, too. No suggestion that it is cheap and tatty and will fall apart in 3 weeks.

Well suited to programming Baofeng transceivers
I used this programming lead to program duplex frequencies into a Baofeng G3-3TP Mk3, this can only be done using a programming lead (simplex frequencies can be programmed directly but even then it is easier with the lead). It is possible to use either Chirp or Baofeng's own programming utility (although it is challenging to find it as many of Baofeng's online links are in chinese). Please note the lead communicates with the radio using the microphone and earpiece ports and will require the set to be tuned to an unused frequency to allow successful programming. You will need to identify your model correctly, but it may need to identify as a similar model, eg G3-3TP Mk3 will identify as the similar BF-F8HP
