great item, price and quality
Second Babydan stairgate I've bought as I was so impressed with the first. This is the "multidan" extending version...I had the fixed width one before. Fitted a 2" batten on the wall each side.......... it looks nicer I reckon and the batten also makes it a lot easier to fit the screws as I was only going into wood. When you open the fittings pack, be careful with the "piece" that locks/unlocks the gate....... if you press it when it's not mounted, it comes apart and you can easily lose the small plastic "plate" and spring..... in fact in my box, it had already come apart and I was wondering where this spring and plate had come from. Its a bit fiddly to fit so don't rush it............... I'm pretty good with DIY and with fixing/painting the batten, a good couple of hours. works beautifully... feels pretty sturdy.......... easy to open for adults but difficult for toddlers. Template works well for the hinge side............ make sure they're positioned correctly and there won't be any problems that some people seem to have experienced with it lifting off the hinges. I didn't bother with the template for the other side........... just swing the gate across, with the 2 sections bolted together in the final positions, to the "closed" position.............. then position the top/bottom supports so they sit correctly in the gate supports, mark their exact position and screw them in place. I have read of people just using the template and the gate has been slightly twisted so they then had to reposition and redrill all the holes.

No fuss stair gate - brilliant
I needed a stair gate for bottom of stairs to stop my far too active toddler who's obsessed with going where he shouldn't. Unfortunately due to the opening being too wide and have an immediate bend, a pressure stair gate just wouldn't work and most stair gates weren't wide enough. This adjustable gate is brilliant. It fits well and due to the design can be fitted at right angles (I'm hoping all my images have uploaded ok to help demo) The only change to fitting instructions was I had to adjust the height due to skirting board being in the way on one side. The pros: - easy to fit - solid - can be removed when not needed without any tools - can be fitted at angle (straightforward when 90 degrees, and I've seen from other posters that other angles can be accommodated by make wooden wedges) - adjustable for wider/narrower openings The cons: - screw holes (saying that, it's only small holes and for the peace of mind of having a solid fitted stair gate I don't mind having to do a minor bit of repair with filler when I remove the gate eventually; and the pressure gates I have elsewhere have removed paint anyway so this is much of a muchness) DISCLAIMER - The way I've fitted the gate isn't covered in manufacturer instructions, and you never know might be contrary to safety regs, so make your own assessment on whether you feel it safe to do the same. The main consideration for me given the gate's positioning is whether my toddler would try to wedge himself underneath and damage himself somehow; I'd imagine it could somehow be a choke hazard with the wrong gap, but I've checked and he definitely can't fit his head under so no issues there. Please do be careful though, and check with someone more knowledgeable than an Amazon reviewer. Overall, a brilliant product for a brilliant price.

Extending Safety Gate
Needed a much larger than normal Baby Gate as the entrance to our stair case is much wider than your average. This seemed to be a good option. It was straight forward to put together, you asses the width and fix the two panels together. Then insert each of the bolts into the correct place on the frame and tighten - these are your locating bolts that fix to the brackets on the wall. I then offered up the pivot side first, side B I think - approx where needed to get a rough idea - using the template which was great, I stuck this to the wall with some masking tape making sure it was aligned and then drilled my first 4 holes. I fixed the brackets on the wall and then stuck the gate onto the brackets so it could swing both ways. I line up on the other wall the other brackets, I used the top bracket to see where I would need to drill and then used this mark to set up the template for this side, taped and drilled and fixed to the wall. Some adjustment will be needed when locating the fixed brackets, but this is simply to do by hand screwing the bolt in or out slightly, and then use the spanner included to secure the locking nut. Job took about 20-30 mins by myself to complete. The little man loves it, its now something for him to help pull himself up with - he is only 9 months, but is crawling around and has attempted to climb the stairs on several occassions, so this was much needed. To use I did fine you needed two hands, one to release the catch and the other to swing the frame - But I think this is due to the frame being almost fully extended, my parents brought 2 for their house and as they only have it slightly extended it was easier to open and close with one hand. However, after a few days use, the one handed operation does seem to work for me and my wife. IT works well, it strongly made, I done see it coming down anytime soon - of course use the best plugs and screws for the wall your fixing too, I used the Reds with Different Screws than provided but I know it will hold. All in all, very please, we will actually be buying another 2 for other areas in the house - wanted to try one first to see how it goes.

Stairs gate
Good quality, went on the stairs ok but just found it was hard to open one handed. You really have to make sure the hinges are level or its hart to open.

Great baby gates. Do the hinge side first!
With the help of my parents we installed two of these baby gates. We didn't use the instruction manual because the company recommends using the App Onbox and they give you the code 5731 so you are able to follow video instructions. Onbox allows you to see each step in video form which you can watch as many times as you need to, it also allows you to look back and forward to any of the steps that you need. A massive help was from a review I read by Caj3 who said to first do the hinge side, mark it up and screw in the plastic hinge pieces first, then make up the gate to the correct width and then line up the opening plastic pieces using the gate whilst hanging on the wall. This was the best piece of advice! If I had done it the way the instructions say I'm not sure the gate would have lined up. It's an easier and definitely a more fool proof method of installing the baby gates. It took roughly 3 hours, but as I said we installed two gates and two of of the four of us are disabled, although we all chipped in at some stage 😁. The big question is will they stay put when my 18 month old Granddaughter comes to stay?! At this time they seem very strong and I opened and closed them loads of times to make sure I can do it one handed and they open and close very easily. They move on the hinges beautifully with no noise, even the gate that stretches across a 102cm gap swings on the hinges silently and opens and closes brilliantly. I also love that you can remove them when they are not needed. ATM I'm very impressed with these baby gates. I'm incredibly grateful to Caj3's review that suggested doing the hinge side first, fab advice!!

Dire instructions resulting in a not so handy product
The gate is OK, does the job after all but, because the instructions are very unclear, i end up with an extra unsightly hole in the wall, the removal clip doesn't function and I need 2 hands to lock and unlock the gate, unlike what's advertised. With hindsight, next time I read reviews saying mounting instructions are incomprehensible, I'll look to purchase a different product.

This gate's great!
I'm very pleased indeed with my purchase of this gate (BabyDan Multidan Extending Wooden Safety Gate Beech, 60.5-102cm). The fitting instructions are clear, precise and complete, and the gate provides an excellent barrier at both the top and bottom of my staircase (Yep - I bought two!), which a lot of gates are not suitable for... I had previously tried a pressure gate, thinking that I need only buy one, which I could then move between the top and bottom of my staircase as required. However, as soon as I'd read the fitting instructions, I discovered that pressure gates are not suitable for the top of the stairs because they present a trip hazard due to the base-bar! I also discovered that I couldn't use the pressure gate at the bottom of my staircase either because it requires unbelievable pressure to "close the locking mechanism" which in my case, simply pushed the newel post sideways - Incidentally, neither of these limitations were mentioned in the product description!!! BabyDan to the rescue! - No "pressure" required to "close the locking mechanism", easily fitted to both Newel and Wall, and locks perfectly. Each kit includes a 'stop' should you wish to restrict opening in either direction, and it's also very easy to remove the gate entirely for access purposes. Add to that it's a very well made gate, which in Beech is also aesthetically pleasing, and I'm a very happy customer! Thanks BabyDan - I would certainly recommend this gate.
