The Belly Off! Diet: Attack the Fat That Matters Most

What is your motivation?
The new year has come and gone for many of us, and for some this might have been a purchase to help get us off the couch and back into shape. I know that is why I bought it initially. What I didn't realize is the inherent motivational value this book can have.I started the new year year at 242 pounds, overweight and lazy, breathing hard to get up my stairs at home. Reading this at night, and during my down time, instead of sitting on the couch watching TV, really helped to ease my mind into actually doing it. The recipes are awesome, with everything I could ever want. Best yet, the book details cooking instructions, 4 weeks of meals and example exercises. While the exercises have a little less value in this book because it usually takes knowledge of working out to understand the how-to, they are an added bonus.Essentially, this book tells you exactly what you need to know. Following it to the letter, like other diet books, would be a mistake and the author points this out. In one portion, the author describes the book as a gateway to understanding how to eat healthier on a constant basis, not always having to refer to a book or chart, but rather you gain understanding in what to look for and what will work and not work for you.I have finished reading this book, and 1.5 months after, I am down 20 pounds. I didn't follow the entire 4 week food regimen, or do every single exercise. Instead I used it for ideas, recipes, and adding exercises into my growing repertoire instead of my growing waist line.I highly recommend this book, male or female (although it does take a bit of a male presentation, as it is from Men's Health).Diets are guidelines to life, not restrictions or boundaries to be skirted. This book really shows you that, and if you take anything away from it, do so in a positive manner, because that is the only way that this will ever work.

Buy it and try it! I'm down 17 pounds in 3 weeks!
Easy to read, easy to follow and for the first time a diet EASY TO DO! South Beach wanted a week of eating turkey and V8 basically, you'll be craving carbs like crazy on Adkins OR you can eat like a regular person on the Belly Off! Diet. You get fat, protein and carbs EVERY MEAL. I'm never hungry, I eat all the time and it's never stuff I hate. Chili, chicken wings, sandwiches, steak, pizza....everything is great. I'm not even following this diet to the T and I'm already down 17 pounds in 3 weeks. The thing about it is if I really followed their workout plans (no gym required) more often I'd be down a lot more. It's very motivating. I'm using new belt loops on my pants, I feel so much better and again, I eat all the time. Pick this book up, read it, try it and you WILL lose weight. Tons or recipes for great food and you can even join Men's Health Belly Off! group online for free. See other people's stories, progress, recipes and more. I'm beyond happy with the book and the results but for the first time in a very, very, long time I feel in control of my eating habits. Most importantly this is a real life way of eating, this isn't a gimmick. THIS ISN'T A DIET, IT'S A EATING GUIDE FOR LIFE. I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life. Good luck to you!

Great diet! (Don't buy kindle version)
I've lost 7 pounds in the first week. The diet is very clear and easy to follow. It might be a big change for those starting out, but for health guys out there this is mainly another weapon to the arsenal. Keep in mind the start up cost of buying groceries is about $150 to $200, but this does teach you to look at labels and start thinking about what you buy to eat. Worth trying but remember you must keep at it.Last note: Do not buy the kindle edition. It cut off some words whenever they were listed in charts. Also, you may want to jump around a bit more than the kindle allows. It does give you instant access to the book, but you'll need about a day or two to get into the book before you start anyway.

Yes it works, yes you have to sweat
Yes this book works and of course, no magic bullets so prepare to get sweaty and make a schedule to fit in the workouts and food planning. All of this is included in the book so it's not too hard and what I like most about the book is the numerous exercises you can do at home with little or no equipment. This means you can do most of them at home, while traveling or wherever you happen to be. Follow the plans and you will loose weight, how much is up to you and how closely you want to follow their suggestions.

If you are going to purchase this it gives you a lot of good ideas. Be a wear the book requires a big commitment and requires you to eat proper portion sized meals 5 times per day. I do not have the capacity to eat 5 times per day with my work schedule . I also have a hard time committing to the meal plan because I live alone and to buy all the recommended things in the book I would make it through only a portion of the items before I would have to throw them out.

Excellent for US audience, others not so much
I bought this book for my husband, and we both thought it offered sound advice and an achievable plan. However, some of the foods and/ or brands are not available where I live (what is string cheese??) which leaves you wondering what would be a suitable substitute if you want to use something of a similar calorie count or taste profile. For this reason, it only gets four stars from me.

Belly Off Diet - First Look
I like this book and I like its concept. The authors at Men's Health looked at the methods and practices that actually worked for a hundred or so of their readers over an 8 to 9 year period. They distilled their knowledge into 6 main principles that a large majority of these men used to lose a substantial amount of weight. Things like: eat a high protein and high fiber breakfast, do a fast 2 minute group of exercises they call the "2 minute drill", eat 4 to 6 meals a day...This looks like a plan that even an old overweight duffer like myself can ease into and get real results.

Needs updating to include OLDER generation who cannot do most ...
Needs updating to include OLDER generation who cannot do most of the workouts in this book. Maybe some exercises geared to those over 65 with balance and/or mobility problems but with a belly that needs to be shrunken?

Great book, includes everything you need to finally make changes and lose your belly!
This book is very well written with clear explanations throughout. The recipe plans and shopping lists are fantastic - no worrying about what you should have at mealtimes to ensure you stick to your diet - it's all written there for you - easy!! We bought this with the workout DVD and my husband is losing pounds already - after just over a week! Highly recommended!

Good guide to help weight loss
I really enjoyed this weight loss book. It's motivational and has great recipes . What I liked about it was it so easy to follow as each week is mapped out . What to buy, how to cook it, what not to eat.

Good information
The book is good. It's up to you to follow what it says. It's not that easy. There are a lot of 'diet' books around. I think this is one of the better ones.
