Still Life with Woodpecker

It's different!
"Tilli stroked her Chihuahua. Max's heart made a sound like the sleigh bells on Mrs. Santa Claus's dildo."Princess Leigh-Cheri a rather naïve red headed young woman with the best of intentions meets self-obsessed, red headed outlaw Bernard.I really had no idea of what to rate this book I was thinking 1 or 2 stars because I really had no idea what the hell I was reading, but then I came to the conclusion because I don't understand something should I really rate it lower than it truly deserves? I understood the gist of it but a part of me is thinking there's more to the random babbling than meets the eye. It's easy to not appreciate something that you don't understand but I'd like to think I appreciated this book.Tom Robbins clearly has a very unique writing style. It's very different and only certain people have the ability to pull it off. I think he did a very good job. It might be easier to understand if you are on the same substance as he was when he wrote this book but I don't think it's necessary. What did annoy me was the constant "oh, oh spaghettio", the constant "last quarter of the twentieth century" and him banging on about his damn typewriter, there's certain orifices that I'd love to shove his typewriter, all this started to annoy me. What does "oh, oh spaghettio" even mean? This book is weird, it's strange and seems to be just random thoughts all put together but maybe that's the beauty of it.. Maybe that's part of the genius.. Sometimes a whole load of randomness makes the biggest load of sense. One day I might read another of Robbins' books but until then I'm going to just appreciate the wonders of "Still Life with Woodpecker."

My favourite book.
A whimsical modern day fairytale. Have started to read his other books and have yet to come across a bad one yet.

Perfect.
I've never read a book that has ever hit me as hard as this book. It's intriguing, the characters are odd and the storyline, well Robbins must've been high when he thought of it. But it's so intelligent and Robbins is an incredible story teller. I find that the endings of books usually let me down, but I was so satisfied when this book ended. I have since read this book 3 more times and will probably continue to re-read it for the rest of my life.

I had been trying to remember even the title of the book & By CHANCE .. I actually remembered it ....It had its sentimental value to me. So when the book arrived. It was in exactly the condition the seller had said it was. So thank you ... I sell Amazon.co.uk to no end on my Facebook page to my Finnish Friends as an alternative and great prices.

Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins
Tom Robbins has a hugely expansive mind and such a colourful turn of phrase that he is not only a pleasure to read but is an education. Still Life with Woodpecker is a delightful book with a zippy story line and philosophical gems. I am reading it aloud to my husband so that we can both enjoy the sound of this remarkable man.

Good book
For a short story there's a lot going on, and its certainly not a typical romance. The characters have substance and you're kept guessing throughout. Unlike other books by Robbins I found it difficult to get into, that being said I enjoyed it.

Can't reaaly get into this story
I can't really get into this story. I loved the quotes from this book which you can find anywhere on the internet, and I do find these passages really nice. But to get in to the whole storie is impossible for me. Maybe this is because I am not a native speaker, but I have my dificulties with it.

Magic on Fire
My second read of this great modern American novel Tom Robbins sees the world through lenses not granted to most of us. Reading Robbins is like attending a literary fire-works event.
