Design flaw
Update 24/9/2016This is an update to my original review as I've had them a while and used them a lot. Firstly, I have awarded two more stars. The colour selection is perfect. Having a warm and cool of each colour allows just about any colour to be mixed: greys, browns, skin tones, darks for shadows. The only thing I have had to add is a pinker colour. Although permanent rose would have been my preference I had a spare pan of quinacridone magenta so I pushed the half pan into one of the mixing wells. My tip for mixing on the go is cut a piece of laminated white paper to size fit it inside the tin lid. It's easy to wipe clean and replace when necessary and it means that you can use the mixing wells for storing additional paint should you wish to. The tin lid lies flat and provides a good sized mixing area. This set goes everywhere with me. The paints are good student quality comparable to Cotman (I prefer Aquafine). I will be replacing used pans as long as the plastic insert is undamaged. I haven't changed my opinion that the tin needs to be treated gently. Go for a rigid plastic box if you need something that is hard wearing.Original reviewA very compact set which is ideal for slipping in a handbag or pocket for a trip to the coffee shop or similar. However, this set is not particularly robust, so if you're planning on hiking in Peru then look for something more rugged. The lid closes fine but there's no clasp so it doesn't snap shut and an elastic band might come in handy. The paints (the most important thing) are very nice to use and well pigmented and a little goes a long way. The thing that's not so good is the plastic insert in the tin.The paints are glued into the wells in the insert rather than the pans of paint being placed in the wells like the Cotman set and the insert plastic is that awful brittle packaging plastic. I can forsee that after taking the removable palette out a few times it will break and also the paints will be awkward to replace. The plastic won't stand up to having the remains of the paints scraped out to replace and not being in their pans the only other way to deal with it is to use every last little bit of paint before being able to drop in another de-panned paint cube. There might be space in the tin to remove the insert and glue in the pans but not sure if the tin is deep enough but there would be room for quite a few more colours. Although a rigid plastic insert would add bulk it would be a design improvement. Overall, the set is outstanding value as long as you don't expect it to last indefinitely.

Brilliant little travel set
Lovely little tin of watercolours. Colours are just what are needed, you can mix a black and who needs white ? Good mixing space in the lid and the inserts. The paints leap onto a damp/wet brush (no scrubbing) from the pan and mix together beautifully. Colours are clean and bright without chalkiness and are a joy to use. The brush is a good size and works well.I cut the overlay off at the crease with a craft knife, now it lives loose in the tin.I've bought 4 more Aquafine colours that make this a truly versatile palette. A small piece of adhesive magnetic tape keeps them secure. My only gripe is the plastic insert which does feel a little flimsy. But it's not a problem, if it deteriorates, I'll replace with pans. This little tin is a great introduction to watercolours, or for experienced artists wanting a handy little travel set with useful colours, at an amazing price.

Lovely little field palet, with all the colours needed
Lovely little field palet with all colours needed for our in the field especially being so compact , so not much to take then when out and about or for just a little lunchtime creativity burst.Dailer & Rawney been using for yearsSo pleased with this, as far as price much as expected but still on the good end of price considering many other field pallets, a really nice starter paket to for any beginner. If you want to encourage someone to take cup watercolour painting this is a sweet little set, always encourage someone using good quality paints like these since the outcome is so much crisper and appealing when used since many of the cheap sets can leave a powdery residue that doesn't look as professional and so often pus many Adults and Children off continuing to paint. If your going to buy these asastarter kit it may be a nice idea to print out it download a mixing chart for the Adults or Child your buying them for so they can start mixing the colours , so many Adults and Children who have never painted before also need help in knowing which colours when combined produce other colours or the correct shading colours for shadows. All in all would recommend.

Good quality and ideal for painting on the go.
Great wee set for travelling, fits nicely nside my Midori travel journal. Good strong colours, and a handy plastic flap-over cover which both keeps the colours clean and also has the names printed on. The brush is very small but seems good quality, and there's a surprising amount of room for mixing in the lid as well as the plastic wells in the main section. I've used Winsor & Newton Cotman travel sets before but I think i prefer the quality and design of this one. The paints are a standard half-pan size so shouls be easy to replace.

Nice little set
Super value little set of half-pan watercolours. Very compact and light in an attractive tin, easy to slip into a pocket. Different from, and in my opinion nicer than the run of the mill plastic travel sets. Cheap enough to buy it just to have a go.

Great portable set
This is a terrific little set with a nice brush and a clever way of creating lots of mixing pans. Having something this small with a water brush has made it easier to try water colours in new places.

Not great
These feel incredibly cheap when using them and no matter how you try, you won't get a very vibrant colour with them. The texture when using them can only be described as a soluble wax crayon. I wouldn't waste your money. The only positive I can think of is that it comes with a very good litttle brush but other than that it isn't worth what you pay.

Good first impression
The first try is great, made a comparison to the watercolors I normally use (Windsor&Newton Cotman), and pretty happy with the results 🙌Let’s see how it works when working on a bigger format

Recieved it with most colours melted n all over the place. Tried fixing it and decided to just keep it.

Great for beginners!
This is a perfect travel size set of 12 good quality student grade watercolours. The tin box is compact, slim, sturdy and it comes with a nice short handle brush. Would recommend this as a basic beginners set or a nice set for sketching outdoors.
