Can you use pre ground coffee beans or do you need to grind the coffee beans everytime?

you can use pre ground coffee and there is a special place for it next to the hopper also you need to make sure you press the pre ground coffee icon or you will just get hot water. Personally I don't use ground coffee as I prefer whole beans as the machine grinds the right amount for each cup according to which setting you have it on.

What is difference bet this and fully automatic model

As I understand it, a fully automatic machine, also has a reservoir for milk, so, for milk based drinks, it froths and dispenses the milk and then dispenses the coffee. With this you have to froth the milk separately in a jug or cup. Unless you are making a lots of coffee each day, you probably would not want milk lying around in an un-refridgerated reservoir, so for most home use, I would say this type of machine is preferable. Finally, the Brera seems to be very similar to the cheaper Naviglio except the Brera has dual boilers so it can make coffee and produce steam for milk at the same time. With the Navigilio, you have to make the coffee first and then wait for the water to become hot enough to steam the milk.

Can the coffee making be interrupted to shorten the cup size or extended to accommodate more than just two cup sizes?

Yes the flow can be interrupted to shorten the cup size and it will stay at this cup size until the machine is restarted. Bigger cups can be filled by adding a shot of coffee or hot water from the wand.

Does it only do espresso

Hi, this machine can also make any 'long' coffee, that is espresso-based, such as latte.To do this it has a steam wand and you can adjust both the grind and coffee strength.You will however, need a container for milk to froth with the steam wand.All-in-all a good, if rather pricey, machine.The only problem I have incurred is with the cleaning/de-calcifying cycle, where the instructions did now work - but I understand that this has been sorted in current models.Hope this helps.
