LARGE TOUGH POST FOR A GOOD PRICE!
UPDATE......... 1 YEAR LATER!After a whole year of my hooligan cats tearing the life out of this Trixie scratching pole they have finally worn it out. Other cat scratchers bought previously to this one lasted a few months before the rope was in tatters so, I've just bought a new one for £13.99 only £1 more than last year and still a bargain! One little tip to making it last longer is to regularly turn the pole around (especially if its against a wall or similar) so they don't cause the ropes to break too quickly.ORIGINAL REVIEW - Sept 2012.Its so hard to find a tall-ish scratching post at a reasonable price but this one fitted the bill for my 2 cats that do like to stretch when they excerise their claws! it was really easy to put together & it has a large square base to balance the pole on (my cats are nutters so i put it against a wall!)At 1st the cats wern't too keen on the new smell in the room but after wiggling cat teasers all around the pole over a couple of days during playtime they soon took to it & now use it all the time (you can rub Cat Nip on it too!).I payed £12.99 for this 62cm pole which is soo cheap compared to all of the others on offer (plus i couldn't find another single pole of this height at all!) and i have found it tough, rough & with long lasting potential. very pleased i bought it. arrived quickly as well.

My kitten loves it!
This post is brilliant. My 10 week old kitten was starting to scratch the sofa and paid no attention to the horizontal carpet material scratching pad that I bought her. This was one of the cheapest I've found and it's brilliant. You'd pay twice as much for one of these in a pet store.Really easy to assemble and actually looks really nice in my living room (I bought the cream colour). My kitten has taken to it straight away and loves having a good scratch on it. It's tall enough for her to climb up and stretch out which is brilliant.Great for play time too, if you dangle a toy above it she'll climb to the top and bat the toy around. I've tied a toy to the post with some string which she loves.Had it for a week and no sign of wear and tear yet so fingers crossed it will last a while! Very happy with this item and would definitely recommend it.

Cats love it
Very easy to build. Ideal for bigger cats, as they can really stretch high up. Pretty sturdy, but does rock a bit, as the cats can be pretty rough with it. Good value for money for the quality.

Nice size and the cats like it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this scratching post because I didn't expect it to be so good for the price. It turns out that it's a sturdy post that is a little taller than I had imagined. Both my cats took to it immediately and started using it. They have room to stretch right up and have a good scratch, now saving all our furniture from being the scratch recipients of the house! It was easy to assemble with one screw and one Allen key and it feels steady. The material around the post is pretty standard but the cats like it so it's a winner. I can't yet comment on how long it will last but, for the money it really is a great value post for me and does the job.

You can teach a pig to whistle!
I rescued an old cat from the cats home and she scratched my wallpaper so I thought I would see how I would to with this. After reading the reviews I thought I had nothing to lose as the price is really affordable and the reviews were great. I was so excited when it arrived a few days later. It was really simple to assemble and I put the cat scratching post in my living room where the cat spends most of her time. I put some of her toys on the soft base and started to play with her. I put her favourite rat on the top of the post and couldn't believe it when she reached up for it and scratched! It's a fantastic scratching post and now every morning when she wakes up she goes straight to it and enjoys a scratch. It is really well made and sturdy and I am so pleased I read the reviews and tried it out. I have recommended this to a friend whose cat is scratching her sofa and explained how I taught my cat to use it. Very very happy with this purchase. Great product!

Fell apart after four months
I ordered this product in December 2023. On unpacking, it appeared flimsy and unfortunately this first impression has proved correct. It has collapsed after only four months, so I have now amended my former 3-star rating to 1-star.The thin fleece on the top of the pole was destroyed after about 1 month, but I overlooked that as the pole, and its ability to remain upright, is the most important function for the cat.The base seems to be constructed of thin reconstituted ersatz wood material, covered in fleece fabric. Yesterday the bolt attaching the upright to the base simply passed through the crumbling base, rendering the scratching pole useless unless I find another more solid base and drill a hole in it.For comparison, my cat has three other inexpensive scratching posts which have endured for several years, so this one lasting only four months is an indication of its poor quality. Very disappointing.
