glad I got this instead of strips.
No way to tell how acurate the results are but enjoyed playing with the kit. Used to test out door pond as fish had been missing for acouple of weeks, also got a bubble stone to help oxygenate. Tests came back as safe, fish have been seen, feeding and seem all well, looks like the were just hiding, new pond so looks like they were a bit nervous till they got used to it. Next checking if the ph varies wildly over the day......reading up iv found it can do. One comment is the nitrate test involves a little solid disk that is ment to dissolve, I have found it doesn't realy do so making me wonder if the results of that test can be reliable, going to try breaking the disk up abit see what that does. Found instructions were clear though did need to look up more about safe limits and what to do if the results point to poor quality or dangerous to fish as info in pack limited and abit contradictory in places. Having saidbthat this is a water test kit not a book on keeping fish or an introduction into chemistry so I would say thatnit makes any mention of fish or what to do if the levels out is a bonus. The test tube holder is cardbord, the instructions are a little leaflet and the colour scale is on the back of the pack as noted in other reviews, I can't say I have a problem with this, other reviewers have said would be better if holder were plastic, guess so but that would make it more expencive would rather pay for the chemicals and you can buy test tube rakes if you want somthing more hardwearing, cardboard recycles and I haven't seen just the chemicals for sale so when these run out you would end up getting another pack with a new cardboard rack. Tests take a bit more time than strips, two require you to wait 10 mins befor reading resalts so allow 30-40 mins to do tests so not as quick and easy to do as strips but my research on net befor buying suggested this is more accurate also works out cheaper and I quite enjoy doing it, nostalgic memorys of proper lab experiments whalst studying.

Embrace your inner scientist
I decided to buy this test kit because it had a lot of positive reviews and I'm glad I did. It's very easy to use. As I hate the cold I decanted some pond water into a jug and did all the tests indoors - you only need 5ml of water per test. The box the kit comes in has a section where you can insert the test tubes while you are waiting for the test to be completed, and I'm pleased it's cardboard as it is ecologically friendly. There are labels for all the test tubes and tops so that you don't get confused while doing the tests. Also as the test tubes are flat bottomed so even if the box becomes damaged, the test tubes will stay upright while you're doing the testing. The leaflet that comes with the test kit has printed grids so that you can put in all the results and the date, which is really useful. All in all it's a very user friendly product that I enjoyed using. It's good value for money as the contents are enough to enable multiple tests to be carried out. And unlike some kits, this kit tests the ammonia levels in the water which is important as too much ammonia is dangerous for your fish. The water in my pond was good and I didn't need to do anything to it, but in a few weeks time I will drop in a pond bomb as I found these were the best yet for adding friendly bacteria to your pond.

Apparent good product let down by inner packaging
The product appears to complete a good job with straight forward set of test tubes and reagents for each test all of these clearly maked for both identity and where applicable, usage levels for each test. On use of the tests all appeared to provide a clear result which can then be compared with the comparison charts on the rear of the outer packaging, however my results cannot be compared with a comparable benchmark for accuracy so they have to be accepted as being correct. On the downside the test tubes together with the reagents are packed in the packaging with use use of flimsy cardboard packaging which even after first use is showing signs of damage. As there are six tests (test tubes) together with a number of chemical bottles for the sake of a few pence it would be significantly beneficial for both testing and storage of the equipment and chemicals if a bespoke rack (say plastic) was included in the set. I am sure that most purchasers would welcome this large improvement at the cost of a few pence more on this twenty odd pound testing kit. Hence the four star rating.

Good product and value, but be aware what it doesn't have.
Happy with the product. Straightforward and easy to read the results. This is good value, but keep in mind why. There is no plastic storage box, so keep the included and rather fragile cardboard box dry and in good order. There are no results cards as it's actually printed on the back of the box sleeve, so don't throw the box sleeve away. You'll still need to buy a plastic filling syringe for the vials if you don't have one. This test kit comes with a wide range pH test. If you're happy knowing it's just somewhere between 6 and 7 or 7 and 8 then it's fine. If you need to know the pH to the tenth, you'll need to buy an additional and specific test. My suggestion is to read the test methods first before jumping in. If you sequences them correctly and multi-task taking a few timing notes, you can do all the tests in 15-20 minutes. You can do some during the waiting times of others. Good product.

Gives peace of mind
Really good test kit for ponds. Our first pond and was wondering which test kit to get, after an hour searching through & reading reviews we gave this one a go. Really simple to use. Step by step instructions included. Managed to do the testing on our first try. Can reuse and imagine this test kit would last us a year or 2 if we were testing water qualities every other month.

Read the instructions carefully - twice!
OK, so the kit comes with a load of different bottles and ‘test tubes’ and a syringe. My advice - read the instructions at least twice before using the kit and make sure you understand what the instructions are asking you to do. Once you do it right the list produces good clear results and there is plenty of test chemicals to do lots of repeat tests.
