Much better quality materials than other kites, but it did take me an hour to adjust the string to get it stable in flight. I've binned the instructions so can't check, but I found it only flew stable if the diagonal struts are assembled so they're behind the upright strut. Once I worked that out and spent a while adjusting the position of the ring on the up-down string, it flew well.However, it does need to be flown. A drop in wind will see the nose drop and line go loose. You need to tug the line occasionally to ensure it doesn't stall and dive nose first. Also, don't let it go too high as the sag in the line makes it hard to pick up the slack if the wind does drop. Best to only let out about a quarter of the string.Not ideal for a 5-year-old due to the need to actually fly it, so perhaps best for a child a few years older or as a kite for you to fly yourself while your young child flies the octopus kite. I say the Octopus kite as it's the easiest kite ever - so stable you can tie it to a post and leave it in the air!

I had such high hopes for this - it looked excellent when I first looked at it. Unfortunately it basically fell to bits on its first use. Initially it was excellent - simple to assemble and caught the wind with only the lightest touch. My daughter and I had a very happy hour with it and it did look spectacular.But.The first problem was that the material started to fray quite badly. About half an inch off the bottom of the kite. Not too bad now but if that's from less than an hour's use what it's going be like by the end of the summer? Secondly, the kite has a spine based on a fibre glass pole running it's length. This is held in place by two stitched pockets at the top and bottom of the kite. Unfortunately the stitching around the bottom pocket worked it's way lose and the kite fell to pieces becoming unusable. I could understand for a pound shop bargain but I consider £15 to be reasonably pricey for a kite and I'm expecting something that will last more than a few uses.I've reported to Amazon and a replacement is on its way out. I really hope I've had a duff one off as it really does look spectacular in the air.** Update 22nd JuneSo I've had the replacement for a month or two now and I'm pleased to say my initial concerns have been laid to rest. Amazon supplied the replacement with their usual efficiency and since then I've had it out a good half dozen times and it's been great. Stitching is solid and the fraying hasn't progressed past what it was first use.Very happy indeed with this - hours of fun.

Fantastic kite no need to adjust flew first time by us and our 5 yr old on holiday, had loads of comments too! The only reason why I have given it 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the edges of the wing tips fraying after first use, not dramatically so, but still a shame, maybe we were unlucky, but it flies great so can't really complain!

The media could not be loaded.  Amazing kite, flew really high and looked beautiful. For those saying it didn't fly well, did you unravel the ribbons? Because if you don't that will weigh the kite down and it will only fly for a few seconds.

purchased for a 3 yr old girl for her birthday. she loves watching it and very easy for her and her friends to use independently. good quality material and ready to use in 2 minutes the first time, 10 seconds after attachments fitted. Only downside is when wind is less the ring needs adjusted to get into air and keep up.

Great kite for my 5 year old daughter, she'll run up and down with it for hours.Only annoyance is that the strings needed adjusting on the kite before it could be flown, it simply would not fly and it took 20 minutes of trial and error to get the kite airborne.Other than that, great!

Love flying this kite! It’s light and easy to fly - even on your own and it looks so very pretty! Very therapeutic.

Hi'I purchased this kite it arrived on time, well packaged, it flys well, but at its full height when flying the spinaker nylon frays at the bottom edges of it's wings this may be the severe wind pressure on the nylon, i solved it by putting a coating of stopfray available from John Lewis haberdashery on the edges to stop the fraying this is the only problem with this kite, well pleased after i carried out a minor repair.Denny Small.
