Packed full of information, like an encyclopedia!
So much great information in this book. I dip in and out often and always learn something new. Also have The Fragrant Pharmacy by the same author, which I've had for years, and is equally informative. You won't need any other book on Aromatherapy if you have these two.

The Bible
An absolute must for therapists working with essential oils in a non-clinical capacity. It is very well written, thorough in content and extremely useful for my practice. I have attended lectures (given by a PhD in neuroscience) on the ability of positive thought to actually alter neural pathways for the better and odours are particularly useful in aiding this process.A gentle massage routine using a delicate blend of oils, soft music and a relaxation routine at the end can have amazingly beneficial results.Thank you for your research and work Ms Wormwood, I am indebted.

Highly recommended.
I bought a second hand copy for only 1p + postage so that alone made it a great deal so I ordered copies for a few friends too. This was recommended to me by an aromatherapist as I am studying complementary therapies - as are my friends - and we all love this book. Now several members of our group are also using it. The copies were a little dusty as if they had been in storage for a while but this means they have a lovely smell and feel of old books and are otherwise in perfect condition. This book is full of recipes covering a huge amount of conditions and illnesses so a few could be tried and favourites chosen to use.The dosages are slightly higher than those we are taught to use but I guess this comes with experience and is not a fault of the book as ideas change.I would really recommend it - especially if you can get it so cheap too so there is nothing lost by trying it out.

Buy it, buy it, buy it!
Studying aromatherapy as a mature student, kept seeing this on tutors desk. Don't know why it's not on the reading list as it absolutely should be.A must for every family along with a medicines encyclopaedia, consult this for feeling low, anxiety, pmt, alcohol, drug and nicotine withdrawal, everything to do with the mind. Consult the medicine one for everything a doctor prescribes to your family.Beautifully written, easy to follow, well researched.

A delighful suprise...
An excellent movie shown from a child's perspective. Well photographed with a simple feel good storyline. This film transports you back to 1971 and serves as a superb documentary of that period. Brilliant acting coupled with the Bee Gees supporting the music score. A much overlooked film as recommended by Steve Allen the LBC radio presenter who stated it was one of his favourite feel good films. Give it a try!

Wonderful reading!
This book offers a profound and detailed insight into a myriad of aspects of the many essential oils, their benefits, and how they affect our brain chemistry. A definite reference book for oil consultants, aromatherapists or anyone seeking full understanding and knowledge on this subject.

Fantastic Book -- Love Valerie Worwood's others too...Just one issue
I have The Fragrant Mind, The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, and The Fragrant Heavens (Also Essential Aromatherapy, with Susan Worwood.) These books are fascinating and encyclopedic, going into more depth about aromatherapy than I've ever seen anywhere. They are very readable and entertaining as well. I am making some combinations using this book as a reference and noticing great effects already...plus, my home smells wonderful. (I've just started combining geranium, grapefruit, orange, pine, patchouli and cedarwood. It's a divine combo!)I have just one issue, which I hate to bring up, since I'm an ardent fan of both aromatherapy and Valerie Worwood's books.... CATS (and some other animals as well) are particularly sensitive to essential oils, and I'd recommend you research this on your own and use aromatherapy with caution around cats. Cats are lacking some of the enzymes needed to metabolize the terpenes and phenols in essential oils and some have even been poisoned, while others seem not to be bothered. Oils like pine, cinnamon, citrus oils and others can be toxic to our feline friends.I was not happy to learn this but I love my cats, so it's better to know. I still use the essential oils, but I just make sure to ventilate the area, keep some parts of my home scent-free (dang) and watch the cats closely. I also don't run the diffuser nonstop as I did before, and I'm using other methods of application (being careful not to pet the cats after touching the oils.) The fact that cats sleep a lot doesn't exactly make it easy to tell what's going on with them...I did not see this mentioned in the books, although it may be somewhere. It hasn't been widely known, and it's only logical that one would want to scent areas near the litterbox, etc. I have probably been guilty of sickening my own cats with well-intended immune oil applications in the past.Just thought you cat lovers would want to know this. I don't have other pets like dogs but I think there is some sensitivity there too. Just research it; there's a lot of info online.Valerie's book gets 5 stars anyway. It's a fantastic reference, and I think the oils can probably be used safely around cats if you're careful and aware of potential issues.
