Reliable and powerful
We replaced a 12 year old, slightly smaller Rinnai model with this unit. It's running well, and more efficient than its predecessor. Completely satisfied.

Easy to install.
While it was easy to do myself, it would have been better knowing all of the ins and outs of the installation requirements before having it on hand, that being said, I would recommend downloading and reading the installation manual beforehand if your a diy'er. Plumbing isn't my thing, but I did this myself in a day. With a trip to the hardware store. It does not come with any exhaust pipe and you have to use rinnai exhaust pipe. I would recommend buying the exhaust pipe and installing that before you get going on the water heater first. The water and gas were simple using shark fittings and some pex.

Reliable operations
This is a larger unit replacing an older unit which has performed very well for 12 years and maybe nearing end of life. I am a believer in early replacement to avoid potential panic if any appliance breaks down.

Product damaged
Product is dented all up.. But works great once hooked up.. I wish someone would compensate us for the the scratch and dents.. Hard spending this much money for it to arrive this way.

As described.
The heater is as described. So far we have not had an issue. I installed myself as it was a replacement and did not require much modification. Hopefully it will last as long as the original.

this sucker works great & doesn't break the bank
We live in a climate that does not get real cold so I can't say how well it would operate in such a location. That said, we love this! Gives you hot water when you need it just like expected. We have wanted to go tankless for years but it was unaffordable in the past. This unit was the price of a high end conventional unit and so far has worked much better than the POS Rheem fancy expensive water heater ever did. We had to modify some stuff in our attic/roof for the right size venting to fit. Worth the time trouble & expense. Looking forward to having on demand hot water for years to come!

Works perfect
I installed this unit thru the wall rather that cutting my tile roof. Please use the pipes that Rinnai recommends. I self installed this unit, I am not a PRO contractor, it went very easy. Works great, runs 2 showers and a dishwasher at one time.

The RE160 Limitations Are Not Clearly Stated......................
Two things which are not readily clear about the RE160:1) On the RE140 and RE160 units, the temperature can ONLY be set to between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. There is NO WAY to lower the temperature. If you want to set the temperature to 110 or 115, you'll need to get the RE180. Stupidly, the builtin temperature control keypad has up and down arrows, but the down arrow does nothing.2) The RE160 has a standard 120-volt plug. It does not have the option of hardwiring the unit.. There is no way to remove the built-in plug and bring my existing hardwire cables into the unit. Again, I assumed hardwiring was always an option (like on my old Rinnai R53 unit). But no.You'll note that these two issues ARE NOT shown on the big product feature matrix for Rinnai tankless products on Amazon.
