A Great Christmas Present This Year
Another great release by HIT Entertainment. The first three seasons of 'Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends' are the ones to get as they're all remastered from 2004. The remastered episodes were rare in the UK, US and Australia before, as they've been released on separate DVDs, promotional ones etc. Japan is really the one with all the remastered episodes on their home releases, but not as a series compilation. Aside from the wonderful and crystal clear footage, these episodes are wonderfully written by a vicar named Rev.W.Awdry, creator of the Railway Series, along with son Christopher Awdry and are much more better then the recent series' writings. The narration is nostalgic with the likes of Ringo Starr, who is a big nostalgia factor for kids who grew up with the model animation from 1984-2008. There has been other narrators at the time like Michael Angelis and Pierce Brosnan, but when you ask a question whether its trivia or asking one in general, Ringo's the first thing that comes to mind, like he was during The Beatles. A new age fan will enjoy these episodes, it has good morals and entertaining story lines and if CGI isn't your cup of tea, these DVDs will be your entertainment. These are a great idea for a Christmas gift this year. The episodes are all remastered, with great story lines, memorable music, morals and stunning model animation. You can also buy the S4-7 as well to show your kids the old Thomas and share the joy you had when you were a child with your child, along with 'Blue Mountain Mystery'.

Really Useful Engines
Series 2 of Thomas picks up straight from where Series 1 finished, continuing the tales of the Really Useful Engines on the Fat Controller's Island of Sodor Railway.Like Series 1 before it, this series offers 26 episodes lifted directly from the Rev. W. Awdry's `The Railway Series' books, all sumptuously narrated by Ringo Starr (who ended his stint on the show after this series).Again like Series 1, the stories follow a continuous plot that develops as the run progresses, as opposed to stand-alone episodes that just tell a quick story. What is very different from Series 1 however is that Series 2 introduces many new characters - almost a new face every episode, in fact. Fortunately though, they're some of the best Engines in the whole show; Duck (The Great Western Engine!); Bill and Ben (not the Flower Pot Men); the loveable Donald and Douglas; Boco; Daisy (the first female engine of the show) and of course the infamous Diesel et al.Some of my favourite stories are from this series (remember when Duck crashed into the Barbers?), and again it provides both great entertainment and ironclad lessons for young children (and not so young children!).The first two series of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends are the `purest', based entirely on the books with no external influence and, despite the show still running to this day, the first two series should be viewed by all.Timeless classic(s).

... boy is a big fan of Thomas and will happily watch series 2 for 20 mins at a time ...
My two year old boy is a big fan of Thomas and will happily watch series 2 for 20 mins at a time (longer if I'm feeling more lenient on the TV front and have a lot to get done - he'd watch it for hours if he were allowed!) Series 1 is less of a hit - the trains often crash or get themselves into trouble, which my little one finds upsetting, but no such trouble with series 2 - this is my 'go to' DVD - my son laughs and whoops with joy during several of the episodes - totally engrossed. Bless. (PS Like series 1, these episodes are narrated by Ringo Starr. Series 3 onwards are narrated by an actor who puts so much energy into the Fat Controller that my son doesn't like it. We'll stick with series 2 for now.)

The REAL Thomas the Train episodes!
These are the original “real deal” Thomas the Train episodes in full! Yes, it is PAL format, but it ships from the UK, so that is to be expected. Many hours of enjoyment have been had from this DVD!

Strongly Recommended to Thomas & Friends Fans Who Have a Multi-Region blu-ray Player
I purchased this dvd because my son loves Thomas & Friends. I also wanted to try out a region free blu-ray player that I recently bought on Amazon. The disk played perfectly without any problems and appears to be in excellent condition. Even though this is a dvd there were times when the image looked as sharp as that from a blu-ray. There is a menu that allows you to select which episode to watch or you can watch all of the episodes. Ringo Starr does all the narration and does a very good job of it even though I have a slight preference for George Carlin. If you have a Thomas fan at your home and a multi region blu-ray player, I recommend this dvd.
