It's sturdy enough to handle a full frame with a 600mm lens.
I purchased this to use it in conjunction with a flat, low-lying tripod to do macro photography. When I first opened it and saw how small and light it was, I wasn't sure it was going to do the job. I decided to test it with my full frame Canon 5D and a 100-600 mm lens, which is all quite heavy. It held it with no problem. You do have to be careful when releasing the ball to adjust angle because it is either tight or loose, but once it's tight, it's locked in. I'm impressed for the price.
