Adult collectors review of paleontological accuracy, manufacture, looks and general comments
Paleontological accuracy:The good:Almost prefect, it's correctly proportioned and its pose is anatomically possible. Some extreme but not necessarily incorrect views on how the animal may have looked are shown in this model; the spines along the back for instance reflect a novel view point; and while the exact attaching point of the arms is unknown the extreme upper limit has been taken here.The bad - and I am nit-pickingThe feet are a little large, though this was probably done to increase stability of the model. The hands are orientated incorrectly; these should be held inward facing each other and not drooping down - but then very few dinosaur models ever get this right (no, bending does not work, they bend back). The head (and possibly elsewhere) lack bright colour; modern thinking suggests bony protrusions such as those on Allosaurs's skull were almost certainly coloured - at least in males.As a model or a toy:The good:Great attention to detail has been applied in the sculpting, from skin texture trough to moulding of skeletal structure and muscle mass. A high standard of paintwork has been applied that really brings the model to life, especially in natural light. The movable jar (lower) expands display options and contributes to playability while the dynamic pose adds to the life like quality of the model; and yes, the model does stand unsupported. The model is a little larger than the typical 1:40 scale seen in most Schlicich / Safari / Collecta dinosaurs, giving this beastie a meaner feel - or it could be that the extreme upper limit of possible size has been taken then another meter added under artistic licence.The paintwork and model structure seam tough enough for child's toy box, but I would argue this model would be wasted on children who are going to knock it about and perhaps not appreciate its finer points.The bad:Where the model is assembled from multiple components there is some disparity of colour at joins - a dark green suddenly gives way to a pail cream for instance (notably half way down the neck). This highlights joints that in some cases would otherwise have been difficult to spot. Some body parts do appear poorly toleranced and fit only with a visible gap/join. However, these features do not greatly detract from the awesomeness of the model.

This product is amazing. It is so big. It jaw opens and shuts,it stands up on a smooth surface and looks like its about to pounceOnly good for on show unless you play with it very carefull. Realistic and awsome. Definitley want to get this.

Disappointing paint on this when comparing to reviews online. The one I received is a dull murky green that just looks a bit flat and unexciting, even the eyes look dull. I also bought the Papo Ceratosaurus and the paint on that one is phenomenal so maybe I just got unlucky with the Allosaurus.

Papo Allosaurus Extremley detailed
Having purchased the Running T-rex from papo, I quickly snapped up this Allosaurus. This is a highly detailed and realistic designed model. Less of a toy more of a display piece. Papo excel in their level of detail and realism to create astonishing looking figurines.

For 4 year old boys nothing strikes terror into their dinosaur collection like the Allosaurus! It's mean, looks hungry and has big teeth... all boxes ticked!

Great figure with fantastic detail
Great figure with fantastic detail. Much loved by my 3 year old son. The spikes have been a big hit (other models haven't had that detail), together with the opening mouth.

a very well made dinosaur just as described and another one to add to my grandson's collection. He never tires of his dinosaurs and will love this one..................
