Useful: a small paperback baking handbook with a good range of recipes but no photographs except the cover illustation.
This is a standard small paperback, with no photographs at all, so was a little disappointing at the price, especially as the stunning James Martin 'Sweet' hardback which was only a fiver arrived in the same package. Hence only 3 stars.Saying that, however, it does pack in a great many down to earth recipes which will make it a good kitchen handbook. Plus it has a useful little section on what sizes of tins will be needed for what quantities of different types of mix, plus an indication of cooking time. The recipes are all quick to mix up and some are also quick to bake, so you can see what you have time for.

Small handy no-nonsense baking book
This is my go to book for baking and i have hundreds ! Its small so easily slots in with other cook books without taking to much room , its a light paperback so not heavy to hold .All the basic cakes you need to hand every day in recipe s plus lots more occasion cakes. If i just want to bake a traybake or a chocolate cake this is the one book i pull out and i have many Mary berry books . I think it is because i like the size of the book and the no nonsense easy recipes that makes it my go to .

Little gem
I bought this book second hand. What a find. I have some of Mary's more modern books but there are some really quick gems in this book. Finally found a carrot cake recipe I really like. Would recommend.

If you like Baking you have to have this book
I purchased this book to replace the one I have used for 30years, I was so pleased it was still in print. Can’t bake without this little gem. Have not thrown the old one away as it sentimental to me.

Great home made cakes!
Great variety of recipes by a trusted cook. Cakes for all occasions. The ‘Fast ’ in the title doesn’t mean you can make a cake in 10 mins, but you can prepare most of the cakes in that time. A little gem for your cookery book collection.

New Baker
Bought this book as I've gotten into The Great British Bake Off and Masterchef.Thought it about time I tried something different as never attempted any type of baking before.Very easy to follow instructions but unlike another of Mary Berry's books I bought it hasn't got any pictures. That is my only niggle and would not stop me from recommending this to other people who would like to start making cakes.Did éclairs and profiteroles last Saturday and today I did a lemon cake (please excuse me for blowing my own trumpet)Extremely happy with how they all came out and eager to try some of the other recipes

Useful little book.
Yesterday I won two first prizes at a local Horticultural Show, using recipes from this book. Mary Berry is such a good author of recipes which are easy to follow.

as good as I remembered
I was given this book when I was 12, and found it easy to follow, and was able to make good cakes even with my limited ability. Years later, I lost the book. Recently, I re-bought it, partly for myself and partly for my daughter. I'm pleased to say it's still as clear as I remember, there are a good variety of different recipes and they are very effective. 5 stars from me.
