SilverlineSDS Plus Core Drill Arbor 100mm (793793)

Not for use with core bits over 78mm in diameter. Could wreck your drill or cause injury.
If you look at the listing for the Faithfull DCSDSBSP Adaptor SDS x 1/2-inch BSP, there is a clear statement:" SDS adapters should not be used on core bits of over 90mm in diameter" (original limitations, now revised). The first reviewer damaged that adapter by not paying attention to these limitations.I contacted Faithfull for further advice and their advice is as follows:"The size limitation on diamond cores is to do with the amount of load or turning torque that is applied when using SDS shank adaptors, the larger the core the higher the load applied. You will find that most suppliers of diamond cores will give you a guide to the maximum size core that you should use and this may vary, however we have recently reviewed our recommendation based on factory test and now stipulate 78mm as a maximum diameter. SDS shanks are are approximately 10mm in diameter at the spline and excessive loads can cause the shank to twist and in extreme cases they can snap, this can also cause damage to the chuck system in some cases.Core larger than 78mm should be used on specialist diamond core drills or with the hex adaptor as this is much more substantial and can be use with a conventional chuck."Silverline give no warning on limitations and Amazon continue to list SDS adapters in the "Frequently bought together" section alongside core bits larger than the 78mm despite the risks people could be taking without knowing. They argue that it is down to the buyer to do their homework. If you are lucky, you will get away with it. Maybe it will just damage your drill and equipment. In extreme conditions it could snap. Something going wrong with a mass of metal spinning at 3000rpm could result in injury.

Did not fit my core drill
Issues: The quality of the arbor was rough finish with rough metal protrusions. The piece would not thread into by 1/2 BST core drill at a 90 degree angle and if used would have caused the drill bit to wobble. I did not try and force the thread. On inspection the first few threads of on the arbor were mis shaped.Compatibility : My taper pilot bit was too large to fit into the arbour which meant that the drift hole would not be any use. I purchased an arbor from another supplier which is perfect. So faulty thread aside my lesson would be to buy an arbor that is from the same supplier as your core drills to ensure compatibility.

poor quality control
I've bought a lot of silverline tools and have been impressed with their quality for the low price. However this arbor extension was so off centre it was almost comical. The core drill I attached moved at least 6mm off centre making the extension useless. Sent it back for a refund. A pity because normally silverline have been good but in this case a bit of quality control e.g. simply roll the extension bar on a worktop to see the wobble, would have solved the problem.

Don't waste your money
I've returned this item for a full refund, I'll find another make of arbor to use. Manufacturing process defects, the arbor doesn't run true and when the pilot drill is installed it is off centre to the core drill bit. I thought SilverLine was a good reliable make, but not any more. I wish I'd read the reviews first, I would not have ordered this based on the number of returns for similar reasons.

Wonky junk.
Unusable due to inaccurate manufacture. The steel, shank and SDS spigot seem fine, and silverline taper drills fit perfectly, however the screwmount for the corebit is askew causing the corebit to wobble. I confirmed this by mounting the arbor shaft in an accurate lathe with a 45mm silverline corebit attached. The end of the core bit (70mm long) showed around a 3mm wobble which would have caused severe jamming if I had tried to use it. Had to drive to a supply depot to buy an alternate arbor. The 45mm silverline corebit itself worked flawlessly on a 6inch thick concrete floor with the alternate arbor.

Waste of money and cost me more!!
So purchased this kit to drill a long hole through 5 bricks 2 walls supporting wall and finally the two outside skins of the building, well what cam I say, the bar wasn't straight at all and gave a nearly 5" hole from the get go!!!! It was so uneven causing excessive damaged where it shouldn't have been, this is the 2nd time I've bought a bit of silverline equipment and on both occasions they have been sub standard and poor poor build quality. I will never, never buy from silverline again, some say once bitten twice shy well for me it was more a case of twice bitten causing more damage to repair costing more money on a job. Well done silverline (note the sarcasm)

Didn't work whatsoever
Was using this to drill through my bathroom wall for the waste pipe, ended up not using it at all because the guide drill-bit was bent straight out of the packaging or it didn't fit properly into the tapered hole. Either way I could not even start cutting into the wall as the core drill was all over the place and couldn't even bite. I ended up just drilling lots of holes with a normal drill bit instead. I would not waste my money on a cheap core-drill again, as apparently you get what you pay for.

Tapered drill bits dont fit
When the arbor came seemed good. When the recommended tapered drill bit was inserted, it did not go in far enough to penetrate the hole inside the arbor, which meant it was very difficult to extract the bit. Bought a different tapered bit from Screwfix and again it did not penetrate the whole so bought an arbor from screwfix and the bit pentrated the hole which meant it could be levered out. Returning for a refund.
