The Thing, and... a thing
Note: This is a British production of a Region A disc, and that does lead to some wackiness. The disc wouldn't play in my region-free Blu-Ray player and I actually had to play it in my PS4. I'm sure that's because some of the advanced features such as BD-live (where current trailers are downloaded from the internet) weren't supported on my cheap player. The Thing: Most of us are really getting this set because John Carpenter's The Thing is an all-time classic. Amazing monster effects, a great performance from Kurt Russell, and a neat story. Seeing the movie on BluRay is an excellent way to experience the film. It looks gorgeous and sounds great. The transfer seems perfect, all the special features are there, it's all great. The Other The Thing: The 2011 remake is completely forgettable. The short of it is that the director intended to make a love letter to John Carpenter's version, including lots of great practical effects. You can tell in many of the fire scenes that they did really excellent fire suits, which are quite impressive. But the studio neutered the director's vision, insisting on computer graphics which completely deflate what little punch the film could have had. So you end up with forgettable computer effects, bland acting, and a useless script. It's okay as a double-feature, but personally I'd watch it before The Thing only because you should end your evening with a better movie.Overall: It's worth the price of admission to get John Carpenter's The Thing on Blu-Ray. Having the remake on here is fine, but honestly if the second disc was just special features it wouldn't change my opinion.

BAM! ......THING 2 is actually THING 1! Like I said.....BAM!
Just when you think a sequel couldn’t surprise along comes a New Thing, but it’s actually the prequel or Thing 1!No spoiler by-the-way...I don’t believe in that, and never deliver them...why would I want to spoil it for you?First we had the original Thing back in the 50’s, so when John Carpenter brought out his new Thing we were ready for an updated presentation...and BOY did it work! Now we have a New Thing again and get ready cause you’re about to take another Antarctic horror trip, but this new one is the precursor of Carpenter’s saga. Scary? Yes! Engrossing? Yes! Worthy? Yes again! Why do these Antarctic-based stories work so well....? I think the sheer remote desolateness and no-hope-of-help are the secret. It is really a great package as it contains both new “Things” but not the James Arness original.Turn the lights off, load your Blu Ray or DVD up, and get ready for a scary ride!

Great buy!
The Thing is a classic and a must have for any sci-fi/horror fan and you can't go wrong with this box set. This includes both the 1982 original and the 2011 prequel, both of which played great. The picture quality and sound quality were excellent, though admittedly I'm an expert on neither. As for the special features well, I don't usually watch those and didn't on these discs so can't say if they are any account. As far as the movies go, these are great quality and you won't be disappointed.

Great Bluray treatment of a truly classic sci-fi film!
Item arrived on time. Picture is fabulous. Other than that...I have no complaints!

Great deal
It was good to see both movies even though, yes the prequel does not match up to 1982 movie. For what you get, it is a great bargain even with digital version out there both legal and illegal. If they included a DVD and/or digital copy with the pack, then it would be really awesome but again I believe you get what you paid for.

2 films, 1 terrific saga.
This is an incredible set. The Thing prequel and the 1982 film.Watch prequel first. The 2 films should be watched back to back. The prequel melded well, in style, right into the Carpenter film. The film had a similar look and feeling to the Carpenter.A terrific saga. Did not expect it.

The questions you had are answered
Watch the second one first. Though the photography and CGI is better in the second one, it's like Star Wars, with out the childish crap. What the hell was Lucas doing. I digress. The end of the second is where the first begins.
