Clamps not necessarily required, but something heavy to weigh it down, is
Great product, friend and I spent a couple of days putting this together. If you don't have clamps, the process will take a little longer as you'll have to weigh it down whilst it dries (as we did), but it's completely doable.Really enjoyed the process, cajon sounds great and looks brilliant, easy for a beginner with little experience and some supervision to complete successfully. Price is brilliant given what you get. I suggest some good masking tape to hold pieces in place in the absence of clamps, and some heavy weights (we used dumbbells).

A fun little project with a great outcome
Hello everyone, I decided randomly one day that I would like to practice playing a Cajon drum and saw that making your own was relatively cheap compared to buying one already pre-made. The box comes with all the bits you need with exception to decent wood glue (approx £5), a square, wood clamps which are essential (I picked up some hand clamps for £3 of amazon link below), sand paper, and whatever desired finish/treatment you wish to finish your drum with. The construction isn't actually that difficult if you have the correct equipment stated above and rather than spending money on belt clamps you can just use heavy weights in order to hold the wood in place whist waiting for each glued sections to dry. The overall process is a little time consuming (approx 5 hours) waiting for the glue to dry but the overall outcome is really impressive and really good fun. Addition advice on YouTube to show you step by support but honestly don't be scared of giving this a go, take your time and you will have an awesome drum to show. Final note the snare (spring) attaches to the top of your drum as the instruction fail to inform you this little detailEnjoyYoutube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98dzHGW-8CARolson 165mm Spring Clamp Set (2 Pieces)http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rolson-165mm-Spring-Clamp-Pieces/dp/B006A7EUO4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408739574&sr=8-1&keywords=hand+clamp

Great Starter Cajon for a very Reasonable Price
I bought this as a gift for my niece and assembled it myself.Assembly was pretty straightforward if you have decent clamps. You do need to trim the panels a bit either by planing and/or sanding.I finished my with waxoil and it looks fine. The sound is satisfactory - you could easily add additional snares during assembly. My niece was delighted.

Affordable, freedom for creativity, high quality sound.
The easy read instructions make the construction of this drum easy to do. Though you need to provide some clips of your own, (a litmus test of the handless of your toolbox) the overall build is great.I have bought two already so far and have been working on them and by far the most strenuous part about the woodwork is obviously the sanding of the body. Yet what's a good project if you don't have to put work into it?The wood is nice with a smooth finish but the freedom is all yours to make curves and indents, to varnish or to paint on. The only logo appears on the front of the drum. The sound of the drum is fantastic. Between the two drums, they are both very similar sounding with a sensitive snare in the upper half and a nice crisp bass as I was hoping for.If you're looking for a short project, maybe with the family or even to get creative with a blank drum, I definitely recommend this piece as it is cheap and a high quality construction kit.

A nice way to spend a Saturday
I've just finished building my cajon. It sounds pretty good to me. It took most of a day to build, mostly spent waiting for the glue to set. As others have said, the instructions leave a bit to be desired and you need to be 100% sure that you've got it assembled correctly before applying the glue. The photos in the instructions really don't help much, but the Youtube video makes it a bit clearer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98dzHGW-8CA apart from creating a dilema over whether to attach the snare to the top or to the bottom (I went for bottom). You'll need quite a few tools - I bought belt clamps and glue clamps especially for the project, but I also needed to use my electric drill with 3mm bit and 2mm bit to drill pilot holes, countersink bit, electric sander, and electric screwdriver. There's a lot of overhang to sand away, so I think an electric sander is pretty essential - it would take a long time to sand by hand. The parts fit together reasonably well - it's a bit tight in places, especially the initial frame assembly, which also required a gentle tap with a mallet. Having made it, I think I'd try buying plywood and making my own from scratch next time if I could get the wood cut to size, but it's handy having everything in the kit, apart from the tools, sandpaper and wood adhesive.

Good value
Easy to assemble, inexpensive, a good way to get a taster to see if the cajon is what you want to play. We had an experience cajon player have a go and he says it is perfect for beginners and intermediate players.

Excellent and good fun to build and customise.
Good fun to build - not very challenging (in a good way!) but a great looking and sounding product at the end.Of course you can spend plenty on a professional made cajon, but for occasional use and a little building project it's excellent. Also doubles very well as a side table and extra seat when needed - although it appears impossible to sit on it and not have a go...

great drum and a fun project to make.
Easy to construct with the right equipment (make sure you have a couple belt clamps and ideally a 90degree corner clamp or 2) this is a fun instrument to build. sanding is required on joints before they can slip together tightly. I recommend Gorilla Glue [[ASIN:B0058NUA6S Gorilla 236 ml Wood Glue]} once its all constructed and sanded down it give of a lovely tone and can be personalised with painting or varnishing. A lovely item for the cost.word of warning though. give plenty time for the glue to set before moving onto the next step in construction.

Calidad y buen sonido

Great cajon! Fun to build and long lasting
I built this cajon a couple of years ago. Mine just has the natural front. I don't think they had the others when I ordered it. I loved it then, and I still love it today! Putting it together was super easy. I didn't have straps like the ones shown in the picture so I just used a few small clamps and some books to hold it together while drying. After I assembled it, I had a friend paint a picture of a tree on one side and a quote on the other. Then I put a clear spray polyurethane coating on top of that. I haven't had any problems with chipping or anything. Sometimes a film builds up where I hit the face, but it cleans off pretty easily. I worked at a summer camp just after I built it and played it every day of the week for a whole summer, and it held up great! It has a good sound. You can get a decent bass towards the center of the face and higher sound at the top. I know you can get cajons that sound better than this one, but for the price, you can't beat it! Plus, you get the satisfaction of assembling it yourself, and throwing in a little of your own personality. I will say I wish I hadn't glued the front face to the body. It sort of deadened the sound a little, but I was able to make it work. Overall, I am very happy with my cajon. I might even buy the bongo cajon kit just for fun!
