What the frack!
Great trip down memory lane. Oddly the picture is justified out on my TV so everyone has wide heads. I wouldn't quibble but the pilot got a cinematic release so surely was available in widescreen. My TV also doesn't do the old effects justice introducing a jerkiness that wasn't there originally. This is not the DVD's fault, more a failing of my LED TV as it does this to other shows too. I haven't finished watching it yet and I missed a lot of the series when it originally aired so some of it is new to me. The show doesn't really stack up to the classy reboot but it is good popcorn entertainment. Just a shame it dates from a time when TV executives insisted such shows had to have a cute (annoying) kid and a stupid robot before they would greenlight production. Boxey and Muffit pretty much ruin every scene they're in and their ability to get into dangerous situations and require rescuing looks contrived and interferes with the flow of the action. Still, it's worth putting up with this to enjoy the closest thing to Star Wars on the TV at the time.

Suprisingly well made and grown up for its period
Nostalgia + !!!!! Cheesy dialogue in places, and the obligatory "cute kid" (Boxy and his annoying robot dog) notwithstanding, it is a lot of fun, and surprisingly sophisticated when compared to most TV scifi of the period. Imaginative, intelligent plots and great special effects, by the standards of the time. The appalling conditions endured by the refugees, contrasted with the luxury enjoyed by the elite (as portrayed by the great Ray Milland), show the creators wanted an adult show, like Star Trek, rather than a kiddies adventure. Like Star Trek, it feels as though they were fighting and making compromises with the network in this respect (hence Boxy). No wonder Richard Hatch (Apollo) and the show's creator, the late Glen Larson, who passed away recently, were so keen to re-make the series when the "Powers That Be" finally stopped patronising scifi audiences.Only problem is a personal one - found myself drawing parallels with the 2000's version, e.g. I could not look at Boomer in quite the same way, or indeed Starbuck! SPOILER ALERT - Cylons origin is different (conforms to typical 70's sci-fi scenario) and a story of clones has "series" of "types" of clone, just as the modern BG has "series" of Cylon "skinjobs". This tended to distract me from the plot, as did the voice of one of my favourite actors Patrick McNee, which is inevitable, given that he died last month.SUMMARY - a great series of its time, and worthy of the expensive re-launch. I love both, but thankful that Boxy did not re-appear in the latter!

we can see the wires holding up the Galatica !
I think people who did not watch this "first time round" in the 1980s may be disappointed. Those that did, will not for sure. Our nine year old has certainly enjoyed watching, and picking faults in the series too !It is quiet entertaining, but riddled with errors be they in the "science", plots or special effects - unnoticed to a large degree in the 1980s thanks to being mesmerized by the show. On a 40 inch LCD screen, you can see the wires holding up the Galactica - something that would have been impossible on an old style 20 inch CRT television. The majesty of the show remains the "special effects" - though dated and flawed by modern standards, seeing the Galactica grace the TV screen still stirs the emotion of hope like it did aeons ago. Throw is the stalwart Adama, the hapless Boltar and the moronic Cylons and magic returns to television.5 stars on the basis of the amount of entertainment per pound sterling.

Ahh I enjoyed this
I grew up on this throughout the 80s - Battlestar Galactica, Mission Galactica and Conquest of The Earth were 3 of my favourite films but i didnt realize as a youngster that they were all cobbled together from various episodes of the t.v. show. Ok its a bit hokey in places and you just wish for Jane Seymour's son and that godammn dog/daggit to be sucked out of the airlock but its still great! Personal favourite is Living Legend with Lloyd Bridges as guest star. Its also noticeable that many of the episodes blatantly borrowed plots from other movies ie Dirty Dozen, Towering Inferno and Shane but who cares. The cast is great but the real scene stealer is John Colicos as Baltar who really does chew the scenery as he plots the destruction of Dirk Benedict and Co. Quality of the episodes is pretty good and there are plenty of extras - the deleted scenes should keep you going for a while even if some of them do come-across as "i'm glad that didnt put that in the show" quality. All we need now is the Batman and Buck Rogers TV shows out on DVD and we'll be well away

The best Galactica
* This is for me the best Galactica, and that is a personal opinion. It is the best because it has the original cast, and it has a Star Wars inspiration in it. Amazing space combat special effects. The drama has some high school cheesy drama when it is not facing combat, but it is not bad once you accept that high school drama style. This of course is a purely subjective opinion.* It has english audio, subtitles in spanish and french.* It is a set of 10 discs with the 1978 TV show. In this show Galactica travels across the galaxy looking for planet Earth. It is different than the 1980 series that describes when Galactica enters in contact with humans and develops episodes under that premise and with absent characters from 1978 show.As a curious note. It has 2 episodes "the gun on ice planet zero" that seemed to have provided known plot elements for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Snow battle, a ground instalation protecting a big gun, etc..

Maravillosa, pero la relación de aspecto es 4:3
Inolvidable serie de ciencia ficción de los 70. Maravillosa realmente.
