Data Science for Babies (Cookie Books for Babies)

I'm a senior data scientist and a mom. This book is funny and sweet, and my kids read it over and over! I love the way it explains the concepts of classification, over/underfitting, time series, etc., all in the context of finding/eating cookies, and with surprise characters along the way. This book was written by someone who knows kids, and data science.

Forget about artificial intelligence, let’s develop some real intelligence starting with babies. Don’t be surprised when your child grows up to be a data scientist because you read this book to him/her while he/she lies in the crib.

My husband is a computer programmer and I am not. I’ve often been stumped when my kids ask me to explain what their dad does at work. This book was a fun way to introduce them to these concepts.

My son is 3 and we absolutely love reading this book together. I replace "babies" with "big kids" for him since he can't quite read well enough yet to know what I'm doing.

This is an educational book for children, but I'm not sure how interesting babies will find it. The purpose of Data Science for Babies is to teach children about data science. Adding more color to the book would make it more appealing to children. It's sure to be a hit with the little genius.

I'm a data scientist in the healthcare field and we have struggled with how to communicate what AI and machine learning models do when speaking with our business stakeholders on projects. That made me curious about how to explain data science to someone this young! And the Cookie Principle works beautifully, I have to say. Having done this kind of work, and using metaphor to explain how it works, I find more of the same on a level that kids will easily understand and relate to. This was a fun read for me, and I will look for more of these books. Transparency: science major with no kids.

I ordered this as a gift for a new parent who works in the data space. I can see what concepts the author is alluding to, but I'm not sure this is at the right level for babies or even toddlers. The illustrations are rather minimalist and not very colourful (mostly brown cookies), so it won't be the most attractive book visually. I think it will be a challenge for the parent to make the content appealing and relatable.

Como digo en el título, la impresión del libro está hecha en hojas finas de papel normal. Al ser "for babies" esperaba encontrar el típico libro para bebés más gordito, y no una colección de libros finitos. Se me ha pasado el plazo de devolución y me lo he comido... así que espero que no os pase a vosotros.

This is the easiest and most beneficial way to teach kids data science. They love its narrative.
