Works amazingly
THIS THING IS AWESOME!!! I wish I would've taken a before picture but I was in bed sick when my husband installed it. My 30 gallon tank water was deep green!! It was BAD!! It took this thing about 4 days to turn my water crystal clear!!! I am shocked and and amazed!! My husband installed it in mintues!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS IF YOU HAVE GREEN TANK WATER!!! BUY IT. If it doesn't work for you, then you missed something up!!!

Bulb died in 2 months
Worked great to start, cleaned up tank in a couple of weeks. Now less than 2 months after purchase, the bulb is dead.

This worked for me when nothing else would.
I've got an aquarium that is about six weeks old. As expected, a couple of weeks in, I experienced a bacterial bloom. The water got cloudy with a white, slightly milky look to it. At first, I did nothing. Because most of the websites I read and videos I watched explained how this was perfectly normal and that it would clear up on its own in a couple of days. A week later, still cloudy. Two weeks later, still cloudy. At that point I added some water clarifier (I think it was Tetra brand). It only made the situation worse. At the three week mark, I got desperate and read about these UV sterilizers and purchased one. The first two pictures you see were from day one when I installed the UV Sterilizer. The second two pictures you see were two days later. The pictures do it no justice. The water went from milky to crystal clear in two days.I've now had the sterilizer in there for a week and the water is perfect. The fish and plants have had zero issues. Bacterial bloom may be a perfectly natural process, and for most people will clear on its own in a couple of days - but for people like myself who had a situation where it simply would not clear, I highly recommend this product. It worked for me when nothing else would. For whatever reason, the front facing pictures don't show the cloudiness as much. But you can see the difference from the side view pictures really well.

Neither the original nor the replacement worked . . . HOWEVER THERE'S AN UPDATE TO THIS STORY
After watching the reviews of the item I ordered one for my fish tank. The pump worked fine, but the UV light never would come on. After troubleshooting with no positive results, I requested a replacement which I received in about a weeks time. When the replacement arrived I found that it wouldn't even power up at all. I gave the company a benefit of the doubt about the first one not working; things happen. But, when they kindly sent me a replacement and the replacement worked even less than the original, I have no other opinion other than these items are absolute junk. Don't waste you money on these "sterilizers."UPDATE!!!Though it still is true that the original two devices received were utter mechanical failures, I decided to give this product one last chance, but this time purchase the device from a local store, "PETCO." This one worked flawlessly and my tank went from green to clear in less than 5 days usage. So, I am changing my opinion on the device itself; it works. Just beware of where you are purchasing it from.

Fantastic customer service
To be honest, I’m not sure how to tell if the filter is actually working. It’s on, water is flowing through it. I’m using it in a red eared slider tank. The tank gets green, and the UV light doesn’t remove the green color from the water. In the beginning, I put it in the tank when the tank was starting to turn green, water color didn’t improve. I then emptied and completely cleaned the tank, and have had the filter running all the time, along with an ovation 700 & an ovation 1000 filter, so that’s 3 filters running 24 - 7. The tank still gets green and I have to empty and clean it once a month. Tank size is 75 gallons, but only half full. As I said, I can’t tell if it’s working properly, or if it’s not powerful enough for a red eared slider, since they are dirty turtles. So it maybe fantastic for fish tanks, or maybe it’s just not operating properly. So all I can say is, check with customer service, try it and see if it works for you. In closing, customer service was fantastic with another issue with the little blue filter cartridge inserts. So I’m sure they will answer any and all questions you may have. As I stated above, tank doesn’t get completely clear. Tank is taking longer before it needs to be emptied and refilled. So it appears the filter is working, but not strong enough for a red eared slider, and about 35 gallons of water. After using the filter for a few months now, I found that if I keep it running 24/7 it keeps the tank from getting green, and I have to empty and clean the tank less often.
