Fantastic unit - well worth the money.
I bought this unit to watch movies, and after some research I definitely made the right choice. There are cheaper units you can buy but believe me, the image quality just is not the same as this. For one thing - native 1080p is a must, not other units are 720p and scale 1080p down. This unit is 1080p ative and it makes a difference.Second is the stellar contrast ratio of 20,000:1, where darks are very dark and whites are very bright indeed.I noticed no colour banding myself which is great as well. Some people have mentioned the fan noise, which I didnt think was intrusive at all. At normal mode the fan is at its loudest, where the brightness is maxed out and lamp life is at its lowest. You can switch between eco and super eco modes as well, which reduce the brightness slightly but slow the fan down drastically which is great. For movies I use normal mode, sacrificing lamp lide and fan noise for quality. But for watching other things you can switch between eco and super eco modes from the remote, which to slwo down nthe fan and increase lamp life. Finally the sound from the projector - yes, it's not that great but what do you expect from a tiny speaker inside a projector - it would be unfair to knock the unit for its sound; if you buy something like this you really want to get some decent speakers, or hook your souce - be it a computer, playstation etc to some decent speakers. All in all this is a fantastic bit of kit for the money, kudos to Viewsonic for offering a unit like this at this price. A serious bit of kit for the home cinema enthusiast. If like me you're after a decent home cinema projector and are stuck between getting a cheaper unit or shelling out more for one of these -- do the latter! You wont regret it.

Very good value for money!
EDIT: 1y3m later still good as new :) seriously best buy everI've had the PJD7720HD Full HD Home Cinema Projector for about 3 weeks now- so far it is amazing (but I'll aim to update my review after 6 months). I was thinking for a long time which projector to pick and at first considered the much more expensive laser projectors. However, I decided to give the ViewSonic a go and this was a very good decision! The projector is very easy to set up. I use it on a cream wall and image looks beautiful even in super eco mode (so I mainly use the super eco mode). Surprisingly, PJD7720HD has also a very good speaker. I was thinking of buying a sound system but with this one I don't really need to. To summarise, the main perks are: very good value for money!, bright with a nice colour range (you can have a good picture quality with ambient light so perfect for casual home cinema), a decent speaker, 3D function (I didn't use it yet), smart design. The things that you might want improved: this projector model doesn't have a short throw function, which is a main minus for me living in a small flat; you can hear the fan (but as soon as you play a movie- you can't really spot it); apart from that -really great experience. I will be revisiting after 6 months to give you an update. Enjoy! :)

and i have to say it is by far the best home 3d experience ive ever had
well i waited to leave this review until i had tried out the 3d feature on this projector , i ordered some of the £35 HI-SHOCK DLP 3d glasses that are for sale on amazon , and i have to say it is by far the best home 3d experience ive ever had , it was amazing and works fantastic , and i had none of the normal eye strain that normally comes with watching 3d films i cannot wait to watch another ,this projector is a very good one on a budget , before this projector i had the EUG 5000 lumans hd projector , it was absolute rubbish , this projector states it is only 3200 lumans but is at the very least double the brightness and the colour is nice and bright and vivid ,i highly recommend this product , do not waste your money on EUG projectors , the information on them is fake

Great value/image.
Using this for home cinema and occasional TV, 6 Nations rugby etc. Very impressed so far. 3D is fantastic, no crosstalk, crisp clean brilliant, Thor Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, flawless. Normal TV great. Shows limitations of the signal used for a lot of cable TV but HD stuff is great. Only tiny thing is the fan is noticeable in quiet bits if you listen for it but not an issue. I have a sizeable AV setup so just turn that up a notch. Inbuilt speaker OK I guess for presentation but get a 5.1/7.1 (or bigger) system round it and it's true home cinema. (A cheap soundbar is never going to do it justice) The great picture and simple setup far outweigh the tiny fan issue, better to cool the lamp anyway. Highly recommend this projector and order with 3D glasses for max benifit.

On the whole I like this projector very much
On the whole I like this projector very much. You may ask why only 3 stars then? I have limited space at home and this is one of the few players, according to their specs, that will fit the throw. I did not want a "short" throw, and this one read just about perfect. When I came to set it up it's obvious that they have the specifications wrong. I have 132" between the lens and the screen. This projector is supposed to fall smack in the middle of this measurement. Instead I have it on full out zoom and it still doesn't quite fill my 100" screen. I am only talking a couple of inches either side but it's still wrong. On the plus side it's bright, very clear and has vibrant colours. Oh and it does NOT have 2 HDMI sockets, there's only one. Also be very careful which projector you are actually reading the review about. There are a few reviews here that are describing the PRO version.

Works great, not sure about quality/lifetime
Works great in my living room. Just placed it on top of a shelf unit. Only drawback so far is that the fan has started to make a noise after ~1 year (chassis vibrating). The built in speaker is good enough for most casual viewing and I very rarely connect up to my amplifier.

First Projector
Bought this as my first projector and this is really good quality, image is grate, of course not as great as a 4k TV but the immersion is totally different.I've used the speaker on the projector for a wild till I bought a THX sound system and this is insane! I do re-discover all the movies I do like in a different way. Much better than cinema, at list you don't have the person who speak, you can drink and eat what do you want..Also good during the day but for sure you don't want to watch any movies with daylight.
