Q: why dose it smell like acid

That is not a smell we would associate to it. It has a floral scent

Q: I take it that to clean an average saloon you would have to use about 5-6 cloths as you wouldn't want to use the soiled part again?

The number of cloths would be dependent on how soiled the car is to start if you where cleaning weekly and it was just lightly soiled then 2-3 cloths would be sufficient if more heavily soiled then 4-5 cloths usually is enough. Don’t forget to wash and reuse cloths they will last for a long time

Q: I dont understand so do you not wash the car first then? As my car is full of dust and mud surely the car needs a wash first?

Yes you can use without washing the car as per the instructions. However if your car is heavily soiled e.g clumps of mud then you should remove these first with a hose then apply the Waterless wash and wax
