Really good book, it's actually has scroll numbers for further research.

As good as any other translation

Was looking for a book which would help me to understand the role of the dead sea scrolls within biblical history but a little dissappointed in the presentation of the information although it might be that i just bought the wrong format and it would have been better if i bought it in hardback edition (if it is available).

it likes good but Imust have the time to ride the booknow I have 5 books to read and I my mother languish is nederland & french so it's not so easy!and the packing was very good toEddy

If you are interested in the religious beliefs of the Middle East you may find this book interesting. Translated from thousands of tiny fragments of parchment the Dead Sea Scrolls are an amazing glimpse back in time to the thoughts and doctrines of the period. The rules and beliefs of the Essene Community are fascinating as are the references to examples of various 'sacred' texts connected to other beliefs. A great guide to the state of religious thought in the early years of Christianity and the continuing evolution of Jewish belief and orthodoxy. The Romans wiped out the Essene Community so this offers us a rare insight into their organisation.

In some instances the writings agree on some of Christ's teaching.

An updated version of the standard work. Most of the book is a translation of the most important of the Dead Sea Scrolls, but there is also a useful resume of the history and significance of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls by someone who probably knows more about them than anyone else.

Not a real lover of Vermes prose but it is comprehensive guide to DS Books
