Full color, neat pages, but no pronunciation..
This is a really colorful book! I opened up our copy yesterday, and literally said "Wow! Full color!" Out loud. There are several pages of practice for each topic, and they are right on target for the age range of second grade. The most impressive thing is the answer key in the back, for parents who don't know Spanish themselves. The main drawback is the lack of phonetic spelling throughout the book. There is a chart on the back of the fist page that gives the English equivalent to each letter - and lets you know that the letters G and C have different sounds in different letter combinations, but not when.... but the letter V does not say v as in "vine," which is what is listed in the chart.) It's more of a soft b sound. It also leaves off the LL (making a Y sound like the word tortilla.) So, for an introduction, this is NOT a good workbook, but all the neat vocabulary practice, for students that are comfortable sounding out words already, it's a really good summer supplement, or vocabulary builder. I'll probably recommend it to my students. It seems like the pages are repeated from another workbook, though....ย The Complete Book of Starter Spanish (Complete Book) . A good price for both.A quick run-down of topics (not all of them):-singular and plural-numbers-capital letters-colors-greetings (tu vs. usted)-clothing-community-food-animals-classroom objects-body partsSo, SOME grammar is covered and LOTS of vocabulary.Sra. Ok for starters
I found this book to be an ok for beginners book. I did wish it had a little more on the basic of Spanish and not just so much single words, wanting more of sentences or something. But maybe I am asking too much for a second grader to get :) I would use this again and maybe alter my expectations.

She enjoyed it!
I bought this for a child whose Latino parents were worried about her not learning to read and write their native language. Since it is on a low level, their fourth grader was able to work on the basics independently. She enjoyed it!

They do not put in the articles
I teach elementary school students and I always include the article with new vocab words. This book does not use articles-ever. If I would have realized this before, I would not have purchased these books. I would rather just make up my own worksheets or find others somewhere else. The article is very important for them to know.

Good
This has been great at augmenting what my son learned in school. It's easy to use and the lessons are at the right age level.

Nice book
The activities are very good for beginners but if the student is advanced or intermedia this is not the right book
