Hi, specifically what staples have customers used with this unit. I want to staple thick 50 page booklets. Any suggestions would be welcome, thanks

This unit will do 50 copies no problem. We bought this for our little printing company and are very pleased. It has made stapling of brochures and large documents look so professional.

Has this stapler got a guide or do booklets have to be pre folded first

The stapler seems to be fully adjustable.... there are adjustable side guides to allow for different size booklets eg. A5 or A4. And the platform where you position the booklet is also adjustable. The stapler looks like it can be in at least 2 positions on this..... one for stapling folded booklets and the other for flat unfolded booklets. However, I have always stapled my booklets folded over the platform positioned at approx. 45 degree angle. Excellent heavy duty stapler in my view.
