WORKING GIRL
A***
Always enjoy this movie
Excellent Harrison Ford movie, probably the best one Melanie Griffith ever did. So enjoyable and I think Sigourney Weaver may have stole the show. Funny, entertaining, clearly depicts the struggles women have had for years and years trying to make their way to the top in a so-called man's world. Fantastic, enjoyable!

A great movie with a great message.
Tess McGill is a working girl with big dreams, smarts, and determination. She's worked hard to learn about the business world and isn't afraid of the challenges ahead of her. She's told by her friends she can't do it. Her worthless BF doesn't think she should. Her new boss, Katherine Parker, ironically, is the only one that sees the potential in Tess's abilities--even as she tries to use Tess for her own gain. When an opportunity presents itself, Tess takes it--with no apologies and a drive that won't quit. Taking advantage of her boss's absence, Tess develops an original idea for a big deal that she knows will not only work, but fulfills her own needs to succeed. No matter the cost. But meeting Jack Trainer changes everything. In him, she realizes that with the right partner, anything is possible. No matter what, even if she looses everything.Working Girl, despite when it was made, has a lot going for it, even now. Are there lot of tropes? Yes, but that actually helps this movie instead working against it. This is such a great movie about empowerment and not giving up, of believing in yourself when no one else does and learning, working, sacrificing your time, life, social time in order to better yourself.I've always wondered about a re-make or sequel of sorts, but--why mess with perfection? The character development of Tess McGill is one of the best in any movie I've seen or any book. Her transformation from meek and hoping something will come across her path to taking a chance and not letting other people stop her from her goals is a message that never gets old. What's nice is that the character of Jack Trainer doesn't demean or put her in 'her place' but compliments her bravado and strength in a really nice way. Jack is a man's man and while he does comment and appreciate her looks, he comes to quickly realize that in Tess, he can realize his own goals and that maybe, he can learn and find excitement in what he does again.Even though Sigourney Weaver's Katherine Parker is conniving and vapid, this is still a woman with power, confidence, strength, doesn't apologize, and recognizes talent when she sees it. If it were a man, he'd be seen as clever and pragmatic. And that's Ms. Parker to a tee. And I love that that's how this character was portrayed. It makes her likable despite that she's the protagonist because, in some ways, she has been wronged even if she did the wrong doing first. That's what makes this dynamic relationship so fascinating. The plot and story is just...FLAWLESS. It's executed so well and it holds up despite the times. Harrison Ford as Jack Trainer and Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill are electrifying. Their chemistry between them and the whole cast is off the chains and it's fabulous It makes the movie that much more watchable. It's your classic romance movie with drama, suspense, ands do much more. I never get tired of watching this movie and I've watched it a dozen times, at least. All the secondary and tertiary characters just add more depth and interest. I cannot recommend a feel-good movie that has everything you want in a movie. The plotting, pace, direction, music, acting by everyone, editing--everything--was fabulous. I give it 10 stars, and beyond. You can't go wrong with this movie. Seriously.

Everything works
The story told in 'Working Girl' is sort of believable. I don't know that someone with as much ambition as Tess would lose items as much as she, but this is a plot fixxer that the scriptwriters just can't resist. Someone who goes to night school would never have as much time (or energy) on her hands as Tess. Of this, I am certain, because I have years of night school on my resume! It did lead to a degree, which I think Tess would need even in those days, in that competitive atmosphere, even with 'a fire in her belly.'There are lots of things like that in the movie, but everything works anyway. You are put in a good mood with the opening Carly Simon song, and you leave in a good mood with the same song closing the picture. New York City gets cleaned up for the outdoor scenes. (I have never seen NYC look as clean as when it's in a movie.) The trip down memory lane when you see the big hair and short pencil skirts is well worth the price of the DVD.Alec Baldwin was considered for the role of Jack Trainer - but he is perfection as Tess's love interest at the beginning of the story. It's a long way from his look then, with his great hair slicked back to reach his collar, to his look in '30 Rock,' where he plays and aging executive, someone who might have been a Jack Trainer in his younger days.Alec Baldwin has a voice that is very distinctive. So does Melanie Griffith, who's breathy baby voice can be irritating - and would kill her career if you weren't mesmerized by her blue eyes. She displays most of her doughy soft body, which I'm sure is long gone and replaced with a Soul Cycle slim figure. In contrast, Sigourney Weaver is sleek and athletic, so it is likely that her character believes the adage that one can never be too rich or too thin. Of the entire film, her quoting Coco Chanel ( 'dress impeccably and they remember the woman') is the one line of dialogue I wanted to write down. She's a class act - even when she's slaying aliens in another film.If you've never seen 'Working Girl,' you must be young. It's likely had a life on cable for years, so catch it the next time around. You'll love it.

Not enough Sigourney
I rented this movie cause Sigourney Weaver is an awesome actor and I wanted to see her in some non-Alien roles. She is excellent in this, of course, especially when she steps off of a plane wearing sunglasses and holding a large stuffed gorilla (clearly a nod to her previous film), but there just isn't enough of her in this movie to make it thoroughly enjoyable.Instead we get to see lots and LOTS of Melanie Griffith, who was clearly battling a drug addiction during this shoot. Ive heard critics rave about her performance in this film; well, if THIS is the summit of her acting career God forbid I EVER see any other movie starring her. Something about her performance calls to mind Pris, the female replicant from the movie Blade Runner, as if the character Melanie plays had been implanted with memories (lines from the script) but lacks the emotional maturity to properly express them. A lackluster perfomance. As for the story, I'm not saying it COULDN'T happen, but it's pretty far-fetched. I got through the movie and then quickly forgot about it. Back when it first came out it might have been a statement of some kind, but in the year 2022 it's a quaint and forgettable 90s fairy tale.

GREAT MOVIE! EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, IT STILL HOLDS UP!
All these years later, I STILL love this movie! It may be funny - Melanie Griffith is FAB in it - BUT, if you have ever worked as a Secretary, you'll recognize the underlying TRUTH that people (Managers, colleagues ANYONE, really) WILL steal your ideas and present them as their own AND take all the credit for it!!! Great soundtrack, too. Light-hearted and fun, it's a classic 80s movie!

A good watch
Havenโt seen this film in years as used to have it on VHS. Film is really good - the eighties hair brings back memories- I definitely had a perm like that in the early 90โs. Reasonably priced and quickly delivered

A good film with a strong storyline. Perhaps might seem a little dated now but the story is still very relevant. Highly recommended!
