This is a great lens with a very similar design to the early 1950’s Canon Serenar 28mm f/3.5 except for the addition of an extra element added at the rear. Like the lens on the Fujifilm X100 series is very close in design to the early 1950’s Nikon W-NIKKOR-C 3.5cm (35mm) f/2.5 lens taking inspiration from vintage designs can create a very good, yet not clinically perfect, lens. I gave it a solid five stars for the balance of price and image quality. Judged solely on image quality it gets four stars.While not as good as the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 lens (a truly outstanding lens with two aspherical elements, autofocus and weather resistance) this lens has a bit of character; a euphemism for not a perfect image.If you are looking for a 23mm lens that renders an image as close as possible to perfection spend the extra ~$400 on the XF 23mm f/2. You won’t be disappointed. Don’t expect this lens, or any vintage lens be it original or a new build based on old design, to perform at the same level as a new OEM professional grade lens. Using a new lens based on an old design will give you results a modern designed lens with aspherical elements won’t: a vintage character without the all too common flaws caused by many decades of age.The advantages of this lens are its solid metal build, sharp center image quality at f/2 and very sharp center image quality at f/2.8 and higher, sharp almost corner-to-corner image quality at f/5.6, excellent contrast, true manual focus (not focus-by-wire) and an aperture ring delineated with click stops. Its almost pancake size makes it a great lens to carry around everywhere you go; something you want in a wide angle lens with a full frame equivalent of 38mm. Its small size and true manual focus (with proper distance markings) makes it perfect for street photography and also, as I use it, a good lens for vintage-style landscape and travel photography.The downsides are its typical, yet mild, “vintage lens” vignetting seen mostly when opened-up to f/2, something that can be as both a pro and a con and is easily fixed in editing. There’s a minor loss of sharpness around the edges at f/2, which also isn’t uncommon, but is better at f/2.8 and clears up at f/5.6 everywhere but the very most far edges. Like with most vintage glass designs flaring can be an issue when shooting into direct sunlight, again something that can be seen as both a pro and a con, and using a lens hood will help fix this. While not weather resistant since it contains no electronics I have little concern about using it in somewhat wet conditions.Long story short if you’ve been looking for a vintage ~25mm f/2 lens like I’ve been you’ll know they’re not only hard to find and expensive but many times due to age have condition issues like mildew damage which can greatly degrade image quality. Plus using a vintage lens means you’ll also need to buy an adapter ring which increases both the price and size. This lens is sharper than most vintage lenses while still retaining a vintage “vibe”, extremely well built, very small and costs very little. It now stays on my camera much more than any other lens I own. As someone that started my photography journey in the days of film this lens returns me to those simpler times.If you understand and embrace both this lens’ strengths and limitations you can’t go wrong.

Après plusieurs sessions, je peux maintenant faire un retour sur la qualité de cet objectif.La qualité optique est excellente pour le prix.L’image est très douce à pleine ouverture, et on perds beaucoup en contraste, mais le piqué revient très vite à partir de f2.8.Objectif en métal, bagues très souples à l’utilisation.Je ne regrette pas l’achat, il ne quitte plus mon X-Pro 1.

Ho preso questa lente attratto dalla recensioni lette ma avevo già notato che nei samples visti sul web gli angoli estremi apparivano spesso pessimi... sperando si trattasse magari di esemplari fallati ho deciso di fare l'ordine, ma purtroppo l'esemplare in mio possesso ha confermato quanto temevo.La lente si presenta ottimamente costruita e molto compatta, con la ghiera dei diaframmi e quella di messa a fuoco che restituiscono un ottimo feeling... in definitiva per quanto riguarda costruzione, aspetto e piacere d'uso decisamente promossa!Venendo alla resa ottica invece la situazione è più complicata: il centro è buono a f2 e diventa ottimo diaframmando, le aree intermedie sono accettabili ad f2 e diaframmando diventano buone, gli angoli estremi invece purtroppo sono pessimi a tutti i diaframmi, tanto da notare un "effetto vaselina" negli angoli già dalle anteprime senza dover ingrandire l'immagine.Il problema è proprio questo... non si tratta di trovare una resa molto morbida andando ad ingrandire cercando dettaglio, gli angoli estremi sono totalmente devastati già guardando la foto intera, rendendo la lente per me inutilizzabile per qualsiasi cosa presenti dettagli negli angoli, dato che l'effetto è sgradevole anche a foto intera e basso ingrandimento.Per quel che vedo mi viene da pensare che la lente sia nata per micro 4/3 e sia poi stata adattata anche all'uso su un sensore aps-c, il difetto che segnalo più che un calo di resa ai bordi sembra una mancata copertura da parte della lente dei bordi del sensore, motivo per cui lo stacco è così netto ed anche diaframmando non si riesce a risolvere.Usandola invece per ritratti e scatti che negli angoli estremi non abbiano assolutamente nulla la resa è interessante.In definitiva una lente che può andare bene solo per alcuni usi particolari ma che per me non può avere un uso quotidiano.AGGIORNAMENTOAvendo il dubbio di aver ricevuto un esemplare non perfetto ho fatto il reso e provveduto ad ordinare un secondo esemplare, quello che ho ricevuto è di tutta altra pasta: mantiene in sostanza il comportamento del precedente come andamento, però in questo caso il centro è molto buono/ottimo a tutta apertura ed eccellente diaframmando, le aree intermedie sono discrete/buone a tutta apertura ed ottime diaframmando, gli angoli più estremi come per l'esemplare precedente restano pessimi ma la parte critica è un po' più piccola, parliamo in sostanza proprio dei bordini della foto.Resta una per me non perfetta copertura del sensore aps-c, nel senso che si nota uno stacco netto tra gli spigoli impastati e tutto il resto perfetto (a diaframma chiuso).Il mio secondo esemplare però è davvero notevole, con una resa molto valida e l'unico difetto degli angolini più estremi, che magari sarebbe inaccettabile su una lente da 1000 euro, ma su una da 75 è decisamente superabile; per il resto è una lente con cui è possibile togliersi grandi soddisfazioni.Occorre fare attenzione alla messa a fuoco, la ghiera di MAF ha una escursione molto corta, si usa con molto piacere tuttavia per ottenere il massimo occorre prestare attenzione, dato che tra uno scatto perfetto ed uno accettabile la differenza è una rotazione molto piccola della ghiera.Si consideri infine che il mio parametro di riferimento sono i fissi fujifilm (14, 35, 56), questo solo per dire che ho presente cosa sia una resa valida.Lente decisamente consigliata a questo punto, sperando che la normalità sia il mio secondo esemplare e non il primo.

No és perfecta òpticament, però té un caràcter, mida, tacte i focal que la fa addictiva. Recorda les òptiques antigues manuals. Jo la porto amb una XT3 i des que la vaig comprar s'ha quedat posada, no he tornat a muntar la zoom. I amb el peaking claves el foco com si res tot obert.

Das Objektiv ist kompakt, die manuellen Einstellungen machen Spaß, super ist die Bestimmung der Schärfentiefe anhand der aufgedruckten Skala. Ich verwende es für unterwegs auf der Fuji E3 und bin ganz happy. Für andere Zwecke nutze ich Originalobjektive.
