Henri Matisse: Drawing with Scissors (Smart About Art)

Bought it for my 5 years old who really likes Matisse’s cutouts (I once used La Gerbe and Icarus as an inspiration to draw a few coloring pages to keep her occupied while I worked, and somehow those stuck for her).She loves the book and even brought it to school for the teacher to read. She discovered Matisse’s earlier works and was particularly interested by Fauvism. She then asked to paint portraits like Fauves.Very well made, accessible for little kids and lots of activity ideas. I’m now suggesting this collection to our local library.

I really liked this book and it inspired a lot of great art for my classroom, however, I teach elementary school and I had to skip a few of the pages just because the response I would get from the class as a whole wouldn't be worth the risk- it's nothing inappropriate (of course its art) but many of my students make a bigger deal out of things than the average student.

Good beginner art book. Little bit overcrowded with irrelevant pictures so kid does not stay the most focused when reading.

I bought this book for a presentation I did for my daughter's first grade class on Matisse. I didn't find it all that helpful for the presentation but it's a nice book if you want a child to have something to look at read at home. I ended up downloading the pictures I wanted from the web and using them on the projector. I drew a connection between Matisse and Eric Carle who was profoundly influenced by Matisse. It seemed more accessible to the kids because they all know Eric Carle and I hoped that maybe Matisse might stick in their brains better that way.

This book is a cut above the rest... Inspiring cut paper creations for all ages, fine motor skills ✂️, and Matisse!Also, a great birthday gift include with scissors and paste.

Read this book to my class as part of an art lesson on Henri Matisse, they loved it!!

Saw this book at a Matisse exhibit but didn’t get it and regretted it. A few years later and my kiddo was ready to learn about this creative artist.

I bought this to read over a few classes to my elementary art students. They loved it. I did skip over a few pages as some of the works would have made for a lot of giggles.

I love this book! It has great drawings and explainations about Matisse’s life. Super idea for a gift for a kid aged 6- 10 I would say

Lovely book that jelps to talk about Matisse to young children. My 7 years old daughter enjoyed reading too. Lovely book to have.
