Much smaller, quieter, 4K capable (inc UHD Blu-Ray player) and with greatly improved graphical power
I've been gaming on the xbox One (alongside the PC and PS4) for this whole gen and played plenty of games on it and many Xbox only games but found I had played less multi format games than i had on the 360 due to the power compromises that MS made with the early Xbox One. So when i found out that MS were finally releasing a powerful and capable machine (having seen the Digital Foundry analysis from quite early on) i was very pleased to get myself a powerful new Xbox. I have recently purchased a new 4k TV, having also purchased a Ps4 Pro earlier this year so for me completing the set made perfect sense and i can say i am very happy indeed with the final product. It comes solidly but sensibly packaged and is very easy to unbox and plug in. I had already transferred my games to a 2TB external hard drive and backed up my old xbox settings to that drive. Set-up was thus very easy , the system detected and installed a chunky update (about 750 MB), applied it and then detected the settings on my external drive and offered to apply them. So i then applied them and found my system, my settings and my games all available for me (and was instantly offered to change my visual settings to 4K.. and i also changed the colour space to 10 BIT for HDR at the same time). Once up and running i first signed into some of my apps to test the Ultra HD options (netflix and Amazon) and was very impressed with both. I then set-about running some of my games (which had installed updates for 4k already). The results are pretty spectacular if you're jumping up from the original XB1 and its many games that output at 900P to 4K and high end visuals. I've loaded up a few thus far and have seen big improvements as a combination of HDR, the res and the greater Image Quality. Games like Gears 4 and Assassins Creed Origins have taken a huge jump in quality. I’ve now played a big range of my games and it really does improve so many so noticeably. It also upscales your old 360 and original Xbox games (backwards compatibility being another feature of this system). Alongside this it stays very quiet , even when gaming .. perfect for a media player as well as gaming system. Overall i am very impressed with this. I've liked the constant improvements to the XB1 since the somewhat botched launch in 2013 but one thing they couldn't overcome was a relative lack of power.. this machine has changed all that and delivered a powerful and impressively engineered console.

Microsoft "Wow!" (Recommend xb1 plyrs only)
A few months with this console after upgrading from the standard Xbox one has shown me some critical points that I want to make. First is the console will never stop amazing you, at least at first. The console is some what restricted by what games are truly optimised for what's its capable of, some of the games look stunning and run better than they do on the Xbox one, but I have found that the biggest issue with this console is stability while running damanding games at enhanced resolution. After a while the console gets really hot, which is not unexpected but I have found that is then starts to struggle and occasionally even sometimes lags or sturters, but again I want to stress that this happens on rare occasions on certain games after about a solid 40 to and hours gameplay. The best features that the console brings is the super sampling, going back to games such a BF4 is frankly a shock, it dramaticly makes a difference and you certainly enjoy an game more when the textures are more enhanced. This brings me onto my next point, the console is significantly quiter the previous gen console, when your running less demanding and better optimised games the console doesn't make any noise at all. The exterior of the console is in my opinion the best yet, it gets rid of any unnecessary casing and leaves it with a sleek design that is discreet and doesn't look out of place, however I understand that some people like it to stand out and have a cool design so I hope that later down the line they release some designed editions. Going off topic for a moment, I want to talk about the big benefit of Xbox live gold, with the new addition of the game pass gaming on the Xbox one in general has just got a lot easier and cheaper, at first the subscription method seemed like a way for Microsoft to exploit gamers by tying all of the games to a pay or no play system, but I relieved that, that is not the case. The game pass is by far the cheapest way to play games today and if you include the EA subscription then your all set really. I feel that this an important selling point when considering the Xbox one X as it almost allows for the larger price. In summary I would recommend this to anyone that is upgrading from Xbox one but I would also recommend waiting till the price comes down a bit maybe wait untill its about £350. I honestly wouldnt recommend this to some one thats has come from a PS4 as I don't think you would be happy with this platform for what it offers at the moment. However Microsoft have been making some big strides in the right direction, so I would not rule it out for the future.

Bricked in 2 weeks, replacement also bricked!!
Utter garbage. Lasted 2 weeks after Christmas, bricked and off for repair. UPDATE. 12 Feb 2018 Original Unit was duly returned after a week in repair. It lasted 7 days, completely bricked a second time. Halfway through a game. Microsoft sent me a replacement via courier. I returned the original within the 14 days allowed to avoid being charged for it. The replacement lasted... you guessed it. Two weeks. E105, then nothing. Black screen and total silence. I contacted MS again, they asked me to do a factory reset. I did, it took hours to sort out; worked a day, now completely unresponsive, cannot even do a factory reset, totally dead. Sits there with the white light on doing nothing. Microsoft promised to send a second replacement last week. To date no sign or sound. I am very disappointed with Microsoft. Their support people are very pleasant, but that is the only positive in this sorry affair so far. The amount of time this has cost me is huge. The only reason this piece of useless garbage has not been sent for refund (along with the games. The online subscription etc) is because my sons are desperate to play XBox online with their friends who all have Xbox1 units that somehow work. None, however has the 1x variant. Let me be very blunt. XBox1X is the worst Christmas present my kids have ever had. If you have any sense at all, do NOT buy this dreadful untested and unreliable (yet hugely expensive) product, unless you want a 400 quid paperweight and very disappointed teenagers. UPDATE, 25 Feb Still no replacement despite numerous contacts, they have prepared one to send but the tracking number says it still has not been handed over to UPS. Had an email from Microsoft saying it was dispatched and had I received it! A complete lie! This is after they told me two days ago it had been sent a week back. Total chaos. Microsoft could not organise a booze-up in a brewery! And the sum total of compensation I have been offered for all of this nonsense? A month of Gold online. Worth less than a fiver, and less than useless because I do not have a working Xbox1X to use it on. You literally could not make this up. Update several years later… After about another week or so we did get a replacement, and it has worked reliably ever since. So the issue was (my guess) poor quality control at Microsoft’s contract manufacturer and shaky customer service, rather than straight bad design. As a console the Xbox1X (once we got one that worked) has been quite satisfactory.

Great new design, 4k HDR beautiful, if limited at present.
Like a lot of people I was unsure as to whether I should spend a fair chunk of my hard-earned money on what is for all intents and purposes just a revised version of an existing console – a console that I already owned. With a policy that means the X will see literally no exclusives, in essence you go into this aware that you are paying £450 to simply play games that look ‘slightly’ better, and even then there’s always the argument that the Xbox One S with its upscaling ability can actually still create an image that is pretty damn close to what you’ll see here. But, also like a lot of people I am naturally just a lover of technology, and like to have the latest and greatest of everything, and if I’m completely honest I don’t mind admitting that it was bugging me that the games I was currently playing could look, play and sound better on this new device. So I bought one, and here’s my thoughts. Firstly from a physical standpoint, this unit is lovely. It’s a world apart from the original One which I had, which let’s face it was a brick. I also think it’s nicer than the PS4 Pro (which I also have) which went the opposite way and actually got bigger. When you consider the enhanced tech that Microsoft have rammed into this unit, and the additional fact the power block has also now been built in – it’s no mean feat to have achieved the production of such a sleek and easy to accommodate device. It’s heavier, which makes it feel like a quality product, it’s thinner which makes it look stylish, and it just feels great. It’s hard to not be impressed by what they’ve achieved with its design. Graphically games do look better. Forza 7 in particular looks rather sensational – though you do need to factor in how good your TV display is, as this will be having a BIG influence on what you’re seeing. Thankfully I have a very decent TV. Forza running at 60fps, with full HDR rendering and in 4k is a true thing of beauty. But of course, this is just one game, and whilst other games also have 4k patches to install some are hard to see the difference. Speed is hard to judge, loading times are marginally quicker but in game it’s hard to tell if what you’re playing is running actually any better, though I suspect we will see the difference start to become more apparent with future releases. The recent improvements to the dash mean that using your Xbox is no longer a frustrating, annoying debacle – the latest dash version is surprisingly nice to operate and makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. Overall I think you buy this if you have a decent 4k display, and want to play games in the best possible light, with the added benefit of future proofing your gaming experiences as new and better titles come out, with developments highly targeting at unleashing the X’s true potential. Currently I don’t think you’re missing much by not getting it, but equally that being said I wouldn’t revert back now that I have it and tasted what it is capable of.

Great console. Poor follow up help available.
Great console. A real noticeable difference in performance from previous consoles. However the controller provided became faulty after a month and I was left with no option but to contact Microsoft in which I was told controller replacements are for US customer only. So this was disappointing as new controllers are expensive.

Not even 24 Hours and it bricked.
My Xbox arrived early yesterday morning whilst I was work. I eagerly left work, excited to play my new Xbox. I got it out of the box hooked everything up and went through the installation process. Outside of the key point of my review, this installation took its time. And upon installation, my 1TB console was now standing at 750GB. But regardless, I entered the good supply of free codes and memberships equipped with the console and linked everything up. I didn't previously own an Xbox One, so I had no games ready to play with. But because of the free memberships provided, I did have a nice source of games to play. Here's where it goes bad. I turned it on this afternoon, and had a nice 20 minutes play time on Dead Rising 3 (Courtesy of Xbox Game Pass). But then suddenly, just out of the blue; it turned off. I was under the impression it was a power cut or perhaps a fuse blew, but no, it was the console. It wouldn't turn back on. I tried unplugging and plugging the power supply back in, trying different wall sockets and I even hit up the Xbox forums for assistance where I could only find a handful of people who are in similar situations. I've just got off the phone with Xbox Support, and I'm told the only way I can fix this is if I send it in for repairs or request an exchange from Amazon. So there we go, the console I spent £429 is dead. The reviews would be higher outside of this disaster, but it's a great console with many added benefits, just I got unlucky with this one.

Exceptional graphics smooth performance
I will start this review by saying I own the previous Xbox one S and the PS4 Pro, and a gaming PC, so hopefully this will be impartial. Graphics: Basically you will see the difference on any enhanced game, of which there are many. Many games offer a range of choices between performance vs res vs textures, so you can taylor your experience, some do all three. I do have a 4k tv so can enjoy the resolution but with the improved visuals I’m sure you’d be able to see improvement even on an HD TV. Compared to the Xbox this is like a night and day comparison and I can only see this gap getting bigger as games take more advantage of the power. Compared to the PS4 Pro the differences are less, however I can clearly see the Xbox one x looks vastly superior still on visuals on enhanced games. So what about PC? Well my gaming PC was around £1300 new last year making it mid range, and the Xbox one x can just about match it for most games. So it’s gaming PC level graphics unless you have an ultra gaming PC. But yeah, it’s good enough! Quality: Build feels solid and it’s quite heavy. The casing looks nice if you did want to have it on display and it’s slightly smaller than both the other consoles. The controller is much the same as the one S but black. Should you? Well if you’ve got this far on my review you’re interested, but it’s expensive for yet another console that will likely be replaced in 3 years. But it’s amazing. Right now, it’s the best gaming experience you can get in your living room, if that’s worth the price to you then do it.

About time Microsoft!
Firstly I have to say that I purchased the original launch xbox one...which I have to say that i felt was lacklustre and just basically underpowered and just gathered dust as I tought that my ps4 beat it in every way possible. But now Microsoft have released this little beast and I have to say so far it's fantastic. It's nice to get back playing the likes of Halo 5, which I basically neglected since I spent all my gaming time on ps4. Gears of war 4 in 4k hdr is absolutely stunning and I've also got halo wars 2 ready to rock. The One X really is a nice piece of kit and hopefully 2018 will see plenty of new releases take advantage of the hardware. I do have some issues...the interface in my opinion still feels a bit cluttered and could be much more sleek (Minor issue really and depends on your own preferences). Also I hope Microsoft start investing in some in house studios to produce quality first party content as now the console is well capable and deserves some top notch games.
