Best bivouac sleeping system for the $$$
If the system is set up correctly, it can protect someone while they sleep outside in the rain and snow, down to -50.This system was fielded decades ago by the US Army and bought mine through the PX.Cons are it's heavy and may be more $$$ than most want to spend. However, this system gets my 'Hockey Puck' award for being almost indestructible (MILSPEC) and able to protect anyone who uses it correctly in those less than idyllic circumstances.

I BOUGHT 3 MORE AFTER THE FIRST ONE, HERE'S WHY
I initially purchased one of these modular sleeping bags in woodland camo. I have an HQ brand modular sleeping bag that is over 8 years old and still going strong. In comparison to the HQ the first thing you notice is that these MT brand modular bags are larger in size ( see product photos ) so if you are budding out solo, I would suggest an A.L.I.C.E. or aluminum framed backpack to support the bag. That said a creative way of packing would be to put some of your gear and provisions inside the modular bag prior to rolling up, depending on the gear of your choice. So in comparison to size, if that is an issue then you may want to find a more compact modular bag HOWEVER!I enjoy the larger size because if you find yourself claustrophobic in mummy style bags and or are a larger person, these MT modular bags are exactly what you need. The MT bag is spacious and full of leg room.As for the temperature ratings this is what makes a modular bag the most versatile bag. There are several combinations you can choose depending on the weather, if it is below 32' F I am confident a person could sleep under the stars using all 3 bags. There is also the combination of just using either the green middleweight bag with or without the rain fly outer shell. or the black heavyweight bag with or without the rain fly and simply just using the rain fly solo in hot summer or rainforest situations. Choose any combination thereafter. As for the water resistance, compared to other nylon fabrics that are silky / shiny in appearance, the rain fly on these are a softer matte fabric but still shell water...I could go on and on about this bag, the zippers are strong and buttons snap very well. The bag is super hot and warm and retains heat very well, there is padding for the headrest and a velcro patch for full coverage over the head once inside..My only gripe is the larger size when rolled up, but the trade off is a much more down filled warmer bag with more leg room inside.I purchased 3 more after the initial one so that alone should say something, I am very rough on my gear and these are holding up nicely..

VERY Comfortable with warm clothes in 16 degrees (- 9 Celsius).
I slept in this system (all 3 layers) in 16 degree (- 9 Celsius). I’m sure the windchill was lower at times.I had 2 silk layers, polypropylene on top and bottom, wool socks and a wool scarf and hat. I left a canteen in the bag with me cuz I wanted unfrozen water in the morning. I also left my phone in my shirt and tucked it in so it wouldn’t freeze. I should have done the same with my solar charged power pack. I woke up several times and had to curl up a little to warm my feet but like I said, the windchill probably got lower than 16 or (-9C)this was honestly the first time I camped with no tent and just slept on a tarp so I’m sure that waking up a few times was partially just not being used to it.When I awoke, the bivy had a layer of white frost covering it, Along with my rucksack. I however was warm and dry. When I got back, I aired all 3 bags out, not that they had to dry, but just to keep them fresh.CON:The only con is the stuff sack. It is a little bit of a pain to put away. And the quality of the stuff sack is not as well made as the bags or bivy itself. It is also a little bulky. It will snag trees or other obstacles if you don’t stay aware. But that is all.I was very happy with this system and can’t wait to test it further.I would give 4.5 ⭐️ If I were able.

Adventure bag! Worth Every penny!
I haven't slept the night and yet but went outside and tested it. It is so warm! I was in pajamas and crawled inside and got too hot once the bivy was on. It's winter where I'm at right now, and according to Google it was 35°. This is not the same as the genuine military one that I used to have. I was very sad when I lost it and my dad who gave it to me recommended I buy this one. I could not be happier! I can't wait to take it on adventures. Yes it is heavy, but that weight is worth it for me. Knowing that I have multiple sleep options for any environment, that I will stay dry and warm and comfortable is worth hauling it around. We also did a water test with some bottled water pouring over it while I was inside and I noticed no leaks. I also love the fact that there is a cinch cord for the bivy that you can reach inside of it to make sure that nothing will get in. The only thing that I dislike about it, which is more of a nitpick than anything, is how long it takes to roll back up. It's actually a good thing that it takes so long for the air to get out, it means that it's well sealed and it's probably not going anywhere anytime soon. But it could be a pain in the butt if you had to pack up camp quick. But I'm sure my dad knows a trick or two to make the process quicker. Also, I'm 6 ft and there's room enough for me and probably my dog in there. There's definitely enough room to slip a sleeping pad in between the bivy and the sleeping bag so that it doesn't roll out from under you in the middle of the night. One thing I would recommend, buy a reusable dehumidifier pack. I used one in my old one to take care of any condensation that might have built up from breathing in the night. Don't know about this one but it was a very slight occasional problem with my old one. They're cheap and definitely worth throwing in the bottom of your bivy sack so that it can help dry it out. If you value being comfortable and know that a good night's sleep helps you get further on the trail the next day this is definitely worth every penny.
